UL -The Lady Cajuns’ 18th ranked softball team collected 28 hits on the day en route to 17 total runs while batting around three times as Louisiana swept a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against South Alabama at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park.

With the wins, the Lady Cajuns tied their longest winning streak of the season at nine games. UL opened the 2008 season with nine consecutive wins before dropping a 3-1 decision to Nebraska at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.

Louisiana is also 13-0 at Lamson Park this season and has won 16 consecutive games in Lafayette dating back to the 2007 Troy series. The Cajuns have outscored their opponents 143-to-9 during the 16 games with 11 shutouts.

Offensively, the Cajuns were led by Vallie Gaspard (Maurice, La.) and Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas). The duo were both 5-for-8 on the on the afternoon. Gaspard scored three runs while driving in one.

Tankersley hit a home run in each game to give her 17 on the season. She has hit a home run in six consecutive games. Tankersley is just three dingers shy of tying Danyele Gomez (2003-06) for fourth on the Cajuns’ single season home run list.

Lana Bowers (Crosby, Texas) also had a home run on the day for the Cajuns, finishing the twin bill 4-for-8.

In the circle, Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) and Donna Bourgeois (Lafayette, La.) both picked up wins on the afternoon. Bourgeois also picked up a save in the opening game. The duo combined for two wins, one save and 26 strikeouts. Bourgeois posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in game two of the doubleheader.
