UL's Holly Tankersley added another honor to her lengthy list of accolades on Wednesday when she was named one of 25 finalists for 2008 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award.
The senior showed why she's worthy of such recognition for the second straight year in Wednesday's 7-0 win over McNeese State, while an often-overlooked Cajun also enjoyed a memorable night at Lamson Park.
Tankersley went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and homered for the fourth straight game. The Texas native led off the second inning with a solo homer - her 15th of the season and 63rd in her career.
"It's always nice to get something on the board," Tankersley said with a smile. "Being back in front of the home crowd was really exciting."
Bowers thrilled the home crowd, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the 18th-ranked Cajuns (28-10). The sophomore tied a career high with three hits after going 5-for-11 in last weekend's series sweep from Florida International.
