The college baseball season hit the midway point over the weekend, which gave UL coach Tony Robichaux a chance to reflect on the first half of his 56-game schedule.

Some of the early results have been surprising. The Cajuns entered the year ranked in multiple national polls and picked to repeat as Sun Belt regular-season champions despite having 22 newcomers and returning only 51.5 percent of last year's run production. The combination of key injuries and shaky efforts on the mound, at the plate and in the field saw them struggled to a 6-12 start.

Since then, UL has won eight of its last 11 games and posted a 5-1 mark on the road in conference play. That road success included winning two of three last weekend at Middle Tennessee State, moving the Cajuns (14-15) up to sixth place from a two-way tie for eighth in the Sun Belt standings.
