Time out...while you may think you have cornered the market on wholesale franchise suffering...you haven't. Being awful didn't originate in New Orleans. Although some people like to think it did. They where the first fans to don the paper bag. And while all that suffering had to be humbling...you haven't been there in a while and honestly...a large portion of you could stand to travel back to that period...to gain some perspective. Being awful all the time isn't a humbling experience...it's what you are. Being humbled truly is gaining everything...and having it taken away. Loss. Being at the zenith...and coming away with nothing but a bad feeling and painful memory you never want to relive again. If you never had anything at all...how in the blue ____ can you be humbled? You were like that to begin with!!!
There is a huge difference between being a Saints fan...and being a Buffalo Bills fan. One team has historically been awful...save for only one year in which the Super Bowl was their destination. One year...one win. Only one other championship game beyond that season was 2006. Other than that it was a myriad of one and done's if they even made the playoffs. Now to Buffalo. This is a team that tasted a dynasty...but never got the nutrition. They where the second best team in the world...4 times in a row. I don't care how many 2-14 and 3-13 seasons you sit through J1M...you will never...ever...be more humbled than a Buffalo Bills fan. Regardless of how many sticks you have.
I guess LSU gets humbled a lot... is what you're saying. Their baseball team is so humble. That loss to Stony Brook humbled the dynasty. UL baseball isn't humble, however... because they never really did anything but reach the pinnacle of post season, the CWS, but once. UL is not humble. Robichaux is not humble. He gets virtually no financial support other than what he personally goes out and works for... but that isn't humbling. LSU, on the other hand... by CajunHawk's definition... is a humble baseball program.
I think you misread...how many titles does LSU baseball own? Tons of them. They can honestly be called at several points in history...a dynasty. The fact that they were a dynasty...is detrimental to their humbleness. If I could write a formula for this it would make it easier to understand. So by your misinterpretation of my definition...LSU is a humble program. Quite the contrary. They are still at the top of their game and anytime they have a tough season...they can always look to their trophy case and say...we are still one of the best programs in the country.
UL baseball on the other hand is humble. A team that has always been a good program and has reached the pinnacle only to fall short. I don't think this is a hard theorem to grasp is it? Did I type in riddle?
No organization is without its tough times. I think the Saints have been through their fair share. You don't have to lose in the SuperBowl to eat some humble pie. I recall getting blasted by Chicago at the footsteps to the Superbowl. I remember getting housed by the by the Vikings in our first playoff appearance. I remember losing three wildcard games in consecutive years, '90-'92. Lets not even talk about the many more years where we didn't even sniff a playoff berth. So call it what you what. Myself, as a Saints fan, have been humble on more accounts than I would really like to admit.
You are correct...but the ultimate humble pie is losing the Super Bowl without having one or more in your back pocket to help you feel better about your lot in life. Without a ring you are nothing...there charliek I admitted it. Now you could say the Saints have come from humble beginnings. It's all about
I'm giving similar examples to your oddball requirements of being humble. Do you not understand my point? You think the only derivatives of humble are reaching the championship game and not being a champion? That's nonsense. You now call it the "ultimate humble pie". I just don't see it that way.
