Thread: Around the corner

    Default Around the corner

Alright, baseball is right around the corner and I can taste the Cane Brake. What are the expectations of this years team? I know we are preseason Top 25 but how good will we be? Will we win the series against Alabama? Also what changes might we see this year besides Dex no longer being there?

Expectations are high. The talent is better than we have probably seen in a very long time. Two things can derail it....injuries & team chemistry.

If we remain healthy and develop good team chemistry then I believe this team has a shot at a super regional. I would never predict a CWS because once you reach the final sixteen anything can happen.

Expect lights out pitching and strong hitting. Our play in the field may not make the high light reels but it will get the job done.

Tony had mentioned that this years team hit about twice as many home runs in the spring than last years team. I don't know if its a knock on the pitching (which is supposed much better/deeper than last year) or that we're downright scary as hitters...........I'm going with number 2.

The only question marks I have are, can Leonards or someone else set the table like Dex did last year? Big shoes. And does Tony stick with Matt Hicks at closer despite the troubles last year. IMO, the pitching depth is good enough that I'm not worried about who's starting after Austin, they will have earned it. Wilson, Boutte, Griffit, Baranik are all options and I'm sure there are ones I'm not thinking of.

Don't be surprised if you see Mike Strentz in right this year (at least some of the time) as that's his best option in the pro's, and that would put Nick Thurman behind the plate. I was very impressed with what we saw of Thurman last year.

Didn't someone say Griffit will be a late inning bullpen guy? Is Ryan Wilson going back to the pen as well?

I heard Scoob was back to the pen. I hope Boutte can give us a Geith-esque year. That would be huge.

The key, as Robe said, is midweek games. Keeping our bullpen fresh for our weekend series and really capturing RPI points on those midweek games. #Questfor40

I saw "Dex" but my brain registered "Deggs".
Was kinda freaking out there for a second.

One of the new pitchers I was watching in fall ball before his game. Was thinking, man this looks like good stuff. Lot of movement, good change in velocities. His first pitch was to Seth Harrison.....triple off the center field wall. Then I remembered, these boys fn CRUSH the ball.
