UL - After playing 21 of the last 25 games on the road, No. 14 Louisiana returns home to the friendly confines of Lamson Softball Park for a doubleheader with in-state opponent Grambling. The twin bill is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 1 at 5:00 p.m.
The Lady Cajuns (21-10, 3-2 Sun Belt) will play at home for the first time since they swept a doubleheader against IUPUI on Mar. 11. The Cajuns have played 10 consecutive road games.
The Lady Cajuns are 2-0 all-time under co-head coaches Michael and Stefni Lotief against Grambling.
The Cajuns and Tigers met up in the 2006 Louisiana Classics Tournament. The Cajuns dispatched Grambling with a pair of mercy-rule games, 22-0 and 13-0. UL’s offense was powered by Tournament MVP Danyele Gomez (2003-06). The senior All-American was 6-for-6 against the Tigers with eight runs scored, four RBI, three doubles and a home run.
In the games against Grambling, the Cajuns will look to remain perfect against schools from Louisiana. The Ragin’ Cajuns are currently 6-0 against schools from the Pelican State with wins over ULM (1-0), Louisiana Tech (2-0), McNeese State (1-0) and Nicholls State (2-0).
Louisiana is currently 8-0 at home this season.
The Cajuns claimed the 2008 Louisiana Classics Tournament title in February winning all four games they played, including an 11-inning marathon win over Southern Miss in the final game.
UL has also hosted a pair of doubleheaders against Nicholls State and IUPUI. The Cajuns claimed four mercy rule victories against the two teams, including a perfect game by Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) in the first game against IUPUI.
Offensively, the Cajuns are led by senior Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas). In 31 games this season, Tankersley boasts a .434 batting average, with 43 hits including 18 extra base hits with 11 home runs. She also leads the team in RBI, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and total bases.
Following the double dip with the Tigers, the Cajuns will head to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a single game against Southern Miss, before heading down to Miami for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Florida International.
