Ragin' Cajuns Host Rival Lamar Tuesday (Ticket Redemption Night)

Five games await Louisiana this week as the Ragin' Cajuns open Tuesday against long-time rival Lamar at "The Tigue" for Season Ticket Redemption Night. Tuesday's game with the Cardinals concludes Louisiana's four-game homestand. •Tuesday night's game will be the first of two Season Ticket Redemption Nights at "The Tigue." Fans can redeem any unused season tickets from any of the Cajuns' previous 11 home dates for additional tickets for Tuesday night's game. •The Ragin' Cajuns then head east to square off against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions Wednesday in Hammond. •FIU snapped the Cajuns' four-game winning streak Friday, while holding the Cajuns to one run in a 9-1 win. Louisiana is 0-3 this season on Friday nights at home. •The Cajuns had been held scoreless in their first 26 innings on Friday nights at home until Matt Hicks' ninth-inning home run. •Justin Robichaux now has seven saves this season - the most by a Cajun since Aaron Welbourne (8) in 2000. Welbourne's eight still stand as a single-season school record. •14 of Louisiana's 17 home runs allowed have come in Sun Belt play (FAU 5, FIU 5, Arkansas State 3, UALR 1). •Only two of Louisiana's 17 home runs this season have come at home - Scott Hawkins vs. SLU and Matt Hicks vs. FIU. MOODY DENIED SCHOOL RECORD AT HOME Florida International spoiled senior Hunter Moody's pursuit of school history as the Golden Panthers snapped the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns' four-game winning streak 9-1 Friday night at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field... Moody (4-2) entered Friday night needing one victory to become the school's career wins leader was tagged for his first loss since March 8 against Arkansas State. He was victimized for four runs on a career-high-tying 11 hits with three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Moody made his 44th career start on the mound, moving into fourth place on the school's all-time list. He also moved into fifth place on the career list with 296 1/3 innings pitched. FARQUHAR BACK TO FORM Preseason SBC Pitcher of the Year Danny Farquhar returned to form Saturday...Farquhar struck out a game-high eight batters, while Louisiana provide early run support as the Ragin' Cajuns disposed of the FIU Golden Panthers 5-2 Saturday afternoon. The Cajuns win evened the series at one game apiece... Farquhar (3-3) notched his second straight victory on the mound, allowing two runs on eight hits in eight innings of work. THIRD TIME AROUND Prior to last weekend's series at UALR, Louisiana had failed to win when trailing in a game... After back-to-back heroic outings at UALR to capture the series sweep, the Cajuns used another rally for a 7-6 extra-inning victory at Northwestern State... Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, the Cajuns took a 4-3 lead and added two more runs for a three-run edge in the fifth. The Cajuns held on until the eighth when the Demons tied the game at 6 all... Then, in the 11th inning, Tyler Benzel delivered the biggest hit of his young career, sending a RBI single through the right side of the infield to score Matt Hicks and give the Cajuns a 7-6 win. FIU SERIES NOTABLES Saturday, Brian Bowman and Thad Griffen each rapped out a career-high two hits. Bowman went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Griffen added a double and a triple...Griffen became the fourth different Cajun this season to record his first career triple. Josh Logan is the only Cajun with a triple prior to the season... Three of the Cajuns' five runs Saturday came via sacrifice flies - a sac fly to center in 1st; one to right in the 2nd; and another to left in the 6th...Saturday, the Cajuns failed to hit a home run, snapping a streak of 10 straight games with at least four-bagger... 14 of Louisiana's 17 home runs allowed have come in Sun Belt Conference play (FAU 5, FIU 5, Arkansas State 3, UALR 1)...With Louisiana's 3-7 start to the home schedule, the Cajuns will not post a 20-win home season for the first time since 2003...Sophomore 1B Justin Robichaux is 0-for-his last 21 at bats and 2-for-his last 34 since going 3-for-3 at Louisiana Tech on March 11... Justin Robichaux has retired 14 straight batters, while registering a save in four of the last five games. Robichaux has struck out 14 batters in 12 innings of relief - averaging 10.50 K/9 innings. He is also holding the opposition to a microscopic .143. FREE BASEBALL Wednesday, Louisiana played its second extra-inning contest of the season, posting a different outcome from its first affair. The Cajuns scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in 11th inning for a 7-6 win... The 11-inning game was the Cajuns' longest since they placed Arkansas State to 11 innings on April 27, 2007 (6-5). AUTOMATIC ROBICHAUX For the fourth time in five games, Justin Robichaux came on in the final inning to preserve a Cajuns victory. On Wednesday, Robichaux notched his team-high sixth save of the season, matching 2007's team leader Danny Farquhar. Saturday, Robichaux solidified save number seven in the 5-2 win... Robichaux is on pace to shatter the school's single-season save record of eight which was set by Aaron Welboune in 2000...Robichaux is the 10th Cajun reliever to notch at least six saves in a single season. LAMAR SCOUTING REPORT Senior Tim Erickson struck out five and allowed just one run in seven innings as Lamar defeated Central Arkansas 7-4 to complete its second-consecutive Southland Conference series sweep at Vincent-Beck Stadium Sunday...Lamar (18-8, 8-1 SLC) finished its longest homestand of the season at 7-1 and started league play at 8-1 for the second-consecutive year. The Cardinals also moved a half-game ahead of Northwestern State (15-10, 7-1) for the conference lead after the Demons were rained out at Stephen F. Austin... Ten (10) different Cardinals have homered this season, including Anthony Moore and Jeff Vickers each with a team-leading three bombs...Tim Erickson leads the team with a team-low 0.52 ERA, while posting a 3-0 mark with six saves on the mound. LAMAR SERIES Lamar leads the all-time series 70-60-1, but lost both of last season’s meetings. In the first meeting of 2007, the Cajuns scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to escape with a 5-4 victory over Lamar... The Cajuns followed with a 3-1 win at Lamar. Brent Solich earned the win, tossing seven innings, while allowing just one unearned run on five hits... Historically, Louisiana has been more successful at home than in Beaumont in the series. The Cajuns are 38-25-1 in 64 series meetings at home... Tony Robichaux is 9-4 all-time at “The Tigue” against Lamar. SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA SERIES Louisiana leads the all-time series 57-37, including a 3-1 win earlier this season. The Cajuns have won the last six meetings and 15 of the last 17... In this year’s earlier meeting, freshman Michael Cook was stellar in his first career start. Cook worked 7-plus innings, scattering five hits - four singles... The Cajuns are just 15-11 all-time in Hammond.
