BOCA RATON, Fla.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team swept conference opponent Florida Atlantic 7-0 on Sunday. The No. 71 Cajuns improved to 13-5 on the season, while FAU fell to 3-14.
In singles action, freshman Julie Mazinova defeated Natalia Totevska in three sets at No. 1. Mazinova won 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Sophomore Myrthe Molenveld easily defeated Claudia Kecht 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.
At the No. 3 position, freshman Kim van der Horst bested Elodie Wendling 7-5, 7-5. Freshman Briggitt Marcovich handed Virginia Augustin at 6-1, 6-2 loss at No. 4.
FAU’s Danielle Simone took freshman Mia Gordon into three sets at No. 5. Gordon defeated Simone 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Sophomore Marina Ruiz de Gauna bested Pia Terol 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.
In doubles play, van der Horst and Marcovich defeated Kecht and Wendling 8-6 at No. 1. Junior Angela Dangond and Molenveld bested Terol and Simone 8-4 at No. 2, and Mazinova and Gordon defeated Hannah Findlay and Augustin 8-2 at No. 3.
The Cajuns will next compete on Saturday, April 12 when they face conference foe Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
