Missed opportunities once again haunted UL and resulted in another frustrating performance at home.
After a hot start, the Ragin' Cajuns went cold at the plate and stranded 10 runners in Sunday's 8-4 loss to Florida International at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The loss dropped UL to 3-7 at home this season as the preseason Sun Belt favorite lost its third conference series of the year - and second at home.
"We've got to play better," said UL's Josh Logan, who went 2-for-4 and scored one run. "When we get our opportunities, we've got to capitalize on them."
Both teams capitalized on early opportunities. FIU (11-18, 5-4 SBC) did so first, jumping on UL starter Brent Solich for a 2-0 lead in the first. Louisville transfer Jorge Castillo stroked an RBI single for the game's first run before Javier Sujo added a sacrifice fly.
The Cajuns (11-14, 5-7) answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to grab a 3-2 lead. Josh Logan opened the inning with a triple to deep center before Matt Goulas was plunked by FIU starter Steven Stewart and Tyler Benzel walked.
