    Default Bad baseball

It just is not geting any better as the season is moving forward. I continue to try and find a few positive things to take out of what has happened so far this season and it is geting harder and harder to do. Yes these freshman are getting experience and getting valuable playing time for the upcoming years but the time is now. I mean something has got to get better in a real quick hurry or else we are gonna be working the concession stand and chasing foul balls at our own conference tourney. It is frustrating, and hard to tolerate anymore. Just tierd of hearing excusses of one thing or another. This coaching staff needs to figure it out and just get it done. I am not saying that i knowwhat the answer is but every year it seems to be one thing or another. This program is at a point that there shouldnt be "rebuilding" years....we should reload. Yes we are suppose to be at the top of the conference year in and year out. And yes we as fans should expect it because that is where this program is suppose to be.

Oh...props to harman for stepping up when he came in to pitch...thats just baseball. Its time someone on this team gets and attitude and starts knocking some heads in that dugout. Robe is right, this team has been soft and doesn't have any swagger.

Was at all three this weekend and not much to get excited about. (Possibly Griffin starting to hit)This is the second conf . series we lose and at HOME.
Hopefully we can get some people back and get on a serious win streak.

Soon a push will be made for Sun Belt tourney tickets and I hope we are winning by then. I paid a lot of money in 2001 to watch our players keep the field up.

    I agree with you.

We haven't done anything well this year. We haven't played defense, we haven't hit and we haven't pitched.

Watching the hitters today, there is hardly anyone in the lineup who takes an agressive swing. It's like they're scared to hurt the ball.

I saw some laziness today as well. In the second inning (I believe) FIU had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and they go a basehit to left. Our leftfielder lolligaged to the ball and took multiple crow hops before throwing home. He almost got him, but had he charged the ball and made an agressive throw, we would have been out of the inning.

This really is pathetic. Just wait until next year. We are losing all of our so called great pitching from this year, but other than Cook, we are going to be in bad shape pitching wise.

we are consistantly inconsistant. My biggest concern is that we dont compete hard for 9 innings every night out.

I have a Question Re: Bad baseball

Does any responsibility for the season up to this point fall on Coach Robe? I mean... he recruited them... and he got them "ready" for this season.

Like all of you, I'm a big fan of Coach Robe. I'm just wondering what others are thinking.

He's already taken responsibility for that. A few weeks back on his radio show, he said that Coach Sczef might be missing some midweek games to re-recruit because they may have missed on some guys, and need to better prepare themselves for next year.

I'm glad somebody brought this up. First of all, Szecf is in charge of recruiting. Now, I will say that I believe Robe makes the final decision, but he didn't hire Szecf to just breathe down his neck and oversee everything he does. While we have had some great recruits, I think the type of recruits we are getting have changed since Szecf got here. Everyone needs to remember that we are a mid-major school in a mid-major conference. We are not going to consistantly get the 5 star players. Don't come back with, "Well Rice gets them" either. They are a baseball powerhouse. We are not there yet. The team that went to Omaha was full of scrappy players who could play BASEBALL. Defense, small ball, pitching. Some of us remember this as "Tony Ball." That's what got us there. We were not holding our breath every time a ground ball was hit or someone squared around to bunt. That team made all the routine plays. They got the bunt down when it counted. Danny Massiatte (clean up hitter) was one of our best bunters. Now, our 2 hole is having trouble getting a sacrifice bunt down. People fail to realize it because we scored 3 runs in the inning, but after Logan's triple yesterday we had two strikeouts with him sitting on third.

I'm going to save some of you some time here also. I can't claim that I would do a better job of recruiting, coaching, or playing. My career ended in high school. I am a season ticket holder and have my right to an opinion. These coaches are paid to put a winning product on the field. These players are on scholarship because they are supposed to be better than you and me. It's time to start seeing some results.

    Excellent post.

I thought that Sczef was in charge of recruiting. Isn't he the hitting coach as well? I have not been very impressed with our hitting since he has been here, particularly our bunting. Yes, our stats have been good, but stats are deceiving. There is too much guessing at the plate and not enough agressive swings.

They better get some recruits in for next year, because from what I have seen this year, we will not get it done next year either.

They don't put stats on the National Championship trophy.

    Amen.

We need some toughness and attitude that this team just doesn't have. That's something that can't be coached. You either have it or you don't, and brother, we don't have it.
