Those are the keys to WINNING. Small ball reeks havoc on defenses. Remember Clemson? You can put all the fire power in the world in your lineup and you will face that guy in the post season. The guy that will shut you down. Ask the Yankees why they aren't defending world champs. They have an all-star at every position. How do you win? You perfect the fundamentals of the game. Yes, our power has gone up since Szecf has gotten here, but is that worth the sacrifice in other areas? I don't think so. Why recruit a power hitter if his defense offsets his run production?

You are correct, these players are not as good as the 2000 team......YET. Does anyone know the average class of the 2000 team? I don't have that info, but I would be willing the bet its a lot older than this team has on the field today. You can compare the production of the 2000 class and last years team, but not 2000 and today. Apples to oranges. Get these guys some games under their belt, and lets compare 2000 team to them then.

One of the things I like about baseball is how it polices itself. The way to keep the game "classy" is to eliminate jawing of any sort after a big hit or something similar. You can't put that on the umps, because most of it can't be seen or isn't obvious enough to be corrected. A well placed fastball sends the message.

Also, it makes things interesting! _
Your post was 100% right on the money. If any has played and really understands what happens between the lines, baseball does police itself. There are times when the umps have to step in because emotions run to high.

No action comes without a consequence.
