Playing without injured starters Scott Hawkins (right ankle), Nolan Gisclair (wrist) and Kolin Hatfield (hyper-extended knee), UL coach Tony Robichaux started four freshmen in Saturday's lineup in a 5-2 win over Florida International.

The youngsters played beyond their years, collecting six of the team's nine hits. Brian Bowman and Thad Griffen collected two hits apiece. Bowman added two RBIs.

Matt Goulas and Tyler Benzel chipped in one hit apiece. Goulas also drove in a run to help UL overcome the absence of its Nos. 3-5 hitters.

"We played them early and wanted to season them up in case we needed them," Robichaux said of his freshmen. "Those guys stepped up today."
