I'm for the increase. I paid my way through UL and I'm glad I finished before this happened, however it's a good thing. My friends all complain with "why? why do you want to raise the price? thats stupid, who cares if we are the cheapest school in the state. thats a good thing." but they are the same people who say "typical UL, always half-assing everything"

well there you go! kinda need money to build a good program

Anyone can get a Stafford LOAN that you pay back after graduation if that helps.

Seriously dude get a grip...hell I can get you free tuition, $20,000 in a lump sum bonus, and around $1000 per month each semester that you are in school if you want to complain....I can even throw in a world tour in 2010.

LOL! I see where your next duty assignment should be. Don't forget to mention the free haircuts.

  7. Support Tuition likely to increase

Higher tuition at the eight schools in the UL system this fall is all but a done deal.

At Thursday's Board of Regents meeting, the tuition hike was approved, pending final passage into law of the legislative measure that allows for the increase.

And as students weigh the effects of the higher price to attend college, UL looks forward to a sizable increase in funds.

  8. Research UL Students return with clear focus

Students walked from commuter lots, biked down sidewalks and waited for UL buses Thursday, the first day the school has been open since Gustav struck.

It may have been only three days since the storm's 60 to 70 mph winds whipped through town, but students and administrators said it was time to get back to business.

Brandon Waltman, a natural resources and environmental quality sophomore, said he was surprised when school officials called for a return this week.

He, his fiancé and his roommate from Slidell evacuated to Waltman's hometown of Shreveport.

But once the trio returned, Waltman said, he supported administrators' decision. Waiting longer would only have made going back to class more difficult.

  9. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . UL LAFAYETTE PREVIEW DAY SET FOR OCT. 18

High school juniors and seniors from across Louisiana will be visiting the University of Louisiana during Preview Day on Oct. 18.

This is an excellent opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the university, meet with current students and faculty and tour campus and residence halls.

Registration is from 8:30 - 9 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. An academic and student organization expo will be available for students to visit during registration.

Students will be welcomed by UL administrators and then will attend the academic showcase according to their major of interest. At each showcase, students will learn more about the curriculum, meet faculty and tour the academic department.

Interest sessions also will be conducted covering financial aid, TOPS, scholarships, residential life and the Honors program.

The formal program will conclude at 2:30 p.m. Preview Day is a free event and parents are invited to accompany students.

For more information or to RSVP, call (337) 482-6467 or (800) 752-6553 or visit the Enrollment Services Department at www.louisiana.edu
