NATCHITOCHES, La. - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over instate opponent Northwestern State on Tuesday. The No. 71 Cajuns improved to 12-4 on the season, while the Demons fell to 11-5.
Louisiana improved their winning streak to three matches, while ending the Demons’ eight-match winning streak.
The Lady Cajuns picked up five of the six singles matches. Freshman Kim van der Horst topped Kathrin Lange 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2, while sophomore teammate Myrthe Molenveld defeated Adna Curukovic 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Junior Angela Dangond defeated Bianca Schulz in three sets at No. 4. Dangond won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Mia Gordon bested Dragana Colic 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, and freshman Briggitt Marcovich defeated Daniela Posada 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
UL dropped the doubles point after falling at Nos. 1 and 2. Mazinova and Gordon defeated Curukovic and Marie Scriba 8-2 at No. 3. Van der Horst and Marcovich fell to Bogusia Patzer and Posada 8-5 at No. 1, and partners Dangond and Molenveld were defeated by Lange and Schulz 9-7 at No. 2.
The Lady Cajuns will be back in action on Friday, March 28 when they face conference foe Florida International in Miami. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
