    SPRINGFIELD, La.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s golf team opened up play in the 2008 Carter Plantation Invitational, finishing the day in sixth place.

    The Cajuns (613) are just one stroke back of fifth place ULM (612) and three strokes back of third place Jacksonville State (610) and tournament host Southeastern Louisiana (610).

    Louisiana opened the day with a team score of 305 and followed with a second round score of 308.

    Individually, the Cajuns were led by senior Michael Smith (Lafayette, La.). His scores of 74 and 75 were good enough to place the senior in a tie for eighth place.

    Two strokes back of Smith was Kyle Pritchard (San Antonio, Texas). Pritchard finished with a day one score of 151 after carding rounds of 76 and 75.

    Devin Carrey (South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) posted rounds of 79 and 77 to finish the day in the top-25 (T-23).

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Morgan Landry (Lafayette, La.) and Thomas Petts (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) finished the day in ties for 33rd and 69th, respectively.

    The Ragin’ Cajuns will finish out the Carter Plantation Invitational tomorrow with the third and final round.

    SPRINGFIELD, La. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns made a push in the final round of the 2008 Carter Plantation Invitational and finished the tournament in third place.

    The Cajuns posted a final round score of 297 to jump from sixth place into third place.

    Louisiana finished 29 strokes out of first place Middle Tennessee, but just three strokes back of second place Marquette.

    Michael Smith (Lafayette, La.) led the Cajuns for the third consecutive round as he carded a final round score of 72. His even-par round moved the senior into a tie for fifth place. Because of his top-5 finish, Smith was named to the Carter Plantation All-Tournament Team.

    Smith finished just ahead of Kyle Pritchard (San Antonio, Texas) and Morgan Landry (Lafayette, La.). Pritchard and Landry both turned in scorecards of 74 on the final day of competition. Pritchard finished the tournament in 11th place, while Landry posted a top-25 finish of his own (T-21).

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Devin Carrey (South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) and Thomas Petts (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada). The Cajuns’ Canadian contingency shot a 78 and 77, respectively, in the final round. Carrey finished the tournament in a tie for 30th, while Petts finished in a tie for 60th.
