UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns’ softball team added another honor this week as sophomore pitcher Brittany Cuevas (Brazoria, Texas) was tabbed Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Cuevas made two appearances on the week, including a complete game against the United States Olympic Team. She boasted a 1.35 ERA on the weekend allowing just three runs (two earned runs) in 13.1 innings of work. The veteran of the Cajuns’ pitching staff struck out 10 batters, while surrendering four free passes, keeping opponents to a .184 batting average.

She held the US National team to just one run in 8.1 innings, holding the No. 1 team in the world scoreless for eight innings. Cuevas recorded four strikeouts against Team USA, including a four-pitch strikeout looking of Lisa Fernandez, while surrendering just four hits on the night.

Cuevas followed her performance against Team USA with 5.0 innings against No. 7 Arizona. Against the Wildcats, she scattered five hits, while striking out six.

Cuevas becomes the sixth Louisiana player to garner Player/Pitcher of the Week accolades. Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) and Melissa Verde (Beaumont, Texas) have both been tabbed SBC Players of the Week, while Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) has been named Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
