NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns senior pitcher Hunter Moody (Clinton, La.) earned his third Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week award Monday as the league office honored the left-hander as its top pitcher.
Moody's third league honor is a single-season school record. Earlier this season, Moody became the first pitcher in school history to be named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week in successive weeks (Feb. 26 and Mar. 3). Monday's recognition is the fifth of his career, tying him with Kevin Ardoin for the most in school history.
Moody (4-1) continues his stellar senior campaign after notching his fourth victory of the season with an eight-inning masterpiece in the Cajuns' 12-1 thumping of UALR Friday night. The senior allowed one run on six hits, while fanning nine batters on a career-high 133 pitches. His win moved him into a tie for first place on the school's career wins list with 26, joining Andy Gros and Scott Dohmann. Moody's next victory will give him the school mark all to himself.
During Friday night's contest, Moody closed in on two more career categories - strikeouts and innings pitched. Moody's 241 career punch-outs trail only Scott Dohmann (245) for fifth on the all-time list. The senior has also logged 289 1/3 innings pitched and needs 1 1/3 innings to surpass Garrett O'Connor for fifth all-time.
