UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team topped East Tennessee State (10-6) 6-1 at Cajun Courts on Saturday. The win improves the No. 72 Cajuns to 11-4 on the season.
The match was the Lady Cajuns’ first since Sunday, March 9.
The Cajuns captured five of the six singles matches. Sophomore Myrthe Molenveld defeated Elena Volobueva 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Junior Angela Dangond bested Andra Voinea 6-1, 6-2 at No.4, and freshman Briggitt Marcovich topped Vita Moskaliova 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. At No. 6, freshman Mia Gordon defeated Whitney Trotter 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Kim van der Horst won a hard fought match against Oyla Batsula at No. 2. Van der Horst won 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Cajuns won the doubles point after picking up wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Dangond and Molenveld bested Volobueva and Trotter 8-1 at No. 2, while the team of Gordon and freshman Julie Mazinova defeated Voinea and Moskaliova 8-5 at No. 3.
The Lady Cajuns will next compete on Tuesday, March 25 when they travel to Natchitoches to take on instate-rival Northwestern State. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
