UL - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns head track and field coach Steve Silvey announced the signing of three more student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday morning.
Sean Ruth (New Orleans, La.), Daniel Martin (Sacramento, Calif.) and Jasmine Manuel (Hammond, La.) complete the 16 commitments for the 2008-09 academic year.
Brother Martin High School product Sean Ruth (New Orleans, La.) was a two-time district champion in the 200-meter dash. He posted a personal-best time of 10.7 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 21.75 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 49.84 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Daniel Martin (Sacramento, Calif.), a sprinter from Trail High School, was named the 2007 Delta River League Most Valuable Athlete. Martin was also a 2008 Master Meet 200-meter finalist and a 2008 Sac-Joaquin Sectional top 200-meter sprinter. Martin recorded a personal-best time of 10.79 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 21.69 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 48.88 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Hammond High School product Jasmine Manuel (Hammond, La.) placed first in the long jump at the 2007 Louisiana State Championships. She was a runner-up in the triple jump at the state meet. During the 2007 summer, Manuel competed in the “Down Under Games” in Australia, winning both the long jump and triple jump. She posted a personal best mark of 19 feet, 3 inches in the long jump and 39 feet, 10 inches in the triple jump.
Silvey said he is excited to see what the athletes will bring to the track program. “These are three more great additions to our program,” Silvey said.
