UL - Louisiana Lady Cajun Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) claimed her second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week award. The accolade is Brignac’s third of the season.
On the week, Brignac picked up three victories with a pair of conference wins in three appearances with an ERA of 1.02, striking out 29 batters while surrendering just four hits and one walk.
Brignac began the week by throwing a perfect game against IUPUI. She retired 13 of the 15 batters she faced with strikeouts. The perfect game was the first for a Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher since Feb. 11, 2003 when Brooke Mitchell (2002-05) tossed a perfect game in the season opener against Louisiana Tech.
She retired the first four batters of the next game she pitched for a total of 19 consecutive batters retired.
In the first game against Middle Tennessee, Brignac struck out 11 batters, scattering three hits without issuing a walk. She entered game 2 against the Blue Raiders in relief. She worked 3.2 innings striking out five, while surrendering just one hit and one walk.
Brignac was named Player of the Week last week, as well as the first week of the season.
