How about the recording over the loud speaker outside of the superdome saying where you could pick up will call tickets, they said University of Lafayette, anybody else hear this?

Really? Earlier last week I e-mailed the TP reporter covering the Bowl about his use of "ULL". I pointed out that the University specifically asks that reference to not be used. His article the following day and everyone I saw by him thereafter omitted that reference and spelled out the name. Now while he did not use UL or Louisiana (as I jokingly pointed out when I subsequently thanked him for the change) he did respond positively and drop the triple turd reference.
This.
It does work for small blogs and publications. At least sometimes it does. I've actually sent plenty of emails over the years. Hell myself and 3 or 4 other Cajun fans have been fighting like hell for 3 years now to get the University's wikipedia article changed. But I've never sent an email to ESPN because I know for a fact the administration has been fighting them for years on this. They made their decision and sending an angry email to ESPN that will just be glanced at then thrown away by a nobody intern won't change it. But hey, some people just like banging their heads against the wall. And if an angry email to a nobody helps them vent their frustrations then I guess that's a good thing.
BTW, judging by the papers in the Superdome and the free papers I've been getting in my driveway lately it looks like the Advocate is trying like hell to break into the Acadiana market. I think an email along the lines of "Using Lousiana instead of L-L would go a long way towards getting us on board with your paper" would be a fantastic idea.
sent mine in earlier today. Will send another tomorrow
I don't know, because both CBS and FOX use UL, Ragin Cajuns, Louisiana, and University of Louisiana. ESPN on the other hand use almost everything but an occassional Louisiana or UL by different announcers, but most use Lafayette, Louisiana Lafayette, ULL, UL-Lafayette, oh and can't leave out the University of Lafayette, "The Lafayette Leopards."
I think we need to express our displeasure in a tactful way, but also let them know how the Cajun Nation loves on FOX Sports and CBS Sports with how they have handled the name issue!
I'm trying to figure out who we've successfully persuaded to use our preferred name and not. I don't think "small" is the appropriate description. I believe our lack of success with ESPN goes beyond their size. There may be factors (other relationships) with ESPN that are influencing the stubborn refusal to honor our athletic branding name. But I really don't think it's the size of the entity. There are some seriously insignificantly sized media (blogs and publications) that would also refuse to grant us our wish... while some large entities have already honored our request.
Personally, I could give a rat's ___ about whether someone within our ranks is "tired of the name thing". I view it as "then go pound sand or take a nap while the rest of us do care". After all, you went from saying it (bothering ESPN) was destructive, to it merely being futile. ESPN might not be changing their tune... but you are adding a little different harmony to yours. Baby steps...
Get over the logo and use of Lousiana Lafayette against an in-state school. ESPN propped us up like we were a big 12 team in a BCS bowl. I have never heard a national broadcast support UL like ESPN did, especially in the first half. Basically made us at NOLA bowl as one of the absolute best non-BCS atmospheres. They had huge props for the team, the fans, and Hud. This is much better than any prior publicity that we could received. We owned the night on the first prime time game of bowl season on a Saturday night in front of a packed Superdome.
If you think this year's NOLA bowl was not a tremendous step forward for the publicity of our university, you are out of your mind. When we played Arkansas it was Louisiana vs. Arkansas on ESPN 3 or U, so they do give us some credit against out of state schools.
