With the loss of three starters on the defensive line, UL entered spring practice much younger.
Cajun defensive coordinator Kevin Fouquier said it hurts losing end Rodney Hardeway and tackles Korey Raymond and Greg Hathorn. The trio combined for 23.5 of the team's 64 tackles for loss last year and 10 of 18 sacks.
Hardeway was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection after leading the conference with seven sacks - including a school-record four in a 34-24 win over Middle Tennessee State on Nov. 10. Raymond was an honorable mention all-conference pick after making 51 tackles, including 37 solos. Hathorn finished second on the team with 2.5 sacks.
The new-look Cajuns, though, have made strides so far in the spring.
"The most encouraging thing is we're winning our one-on-one blocks," Fouquier said. "We're trying to stay in the V of the neck of the offensive linemen on the run and then pass-wise we're trying to get out of the middle of them to get a little pressure.
