  1. UL Football VW SPRING GAME: Young defensive line area of interest

With the loss of three starters on the defensive line, UL entered spring practice much younger.

Cajun defensive coordinator Kevin Fouquier said it hurts losing end Rodney Hardeway and tackles Korey Raymond and Greg Hathorn. The trio combined for 23.5 of the team's 64 tackles for loss last year and 10 of 18 sacks.

Hardeway was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection after leading the conference with seven sacks - including a school-record four in a 34-24 win over Middle Tennessee State on Nov. 10. Raymond was an honorable mention all-conference pick after making 51 tackles, including 37 solos. Hathorn finished second on the team with 2.5 sacks.

The new-look Cajuns, though, have made strides so far in the spring.
"The most encouraging thing is we're winning our one-on-one blocks," Fouquier said. "We're trying to stay in the V of the neck of the offensive linemen on the run and then pass-wise we're trying to get out of the middle of them to get a little pressure.

Funny how stats can be misleading. This article states that we were 18th nationally holding opponents to 19.4 yards per kickoff return. More importantly I would like to see our opponents avg. starting postion after kickoff return because when the kicker only kicks the ball to the 10 or 15 yard line the coverage people will get to the returner much quicker and the return yardage will be much less.

The article does say we are 3rd in the country in in block kicks since Bustle has become head coach.

not sure "funny" is the adverb i'd use, for your great verb, "misleading", for the noun stats..

stats can be like shopping for vegetables in a market.. we pick out only the best looking when cooking for our friends and get the rotten ones when our enemies are coming to dine

all teams, at all levels of play, in all sports use stats to put their best face forward..

stats... best friend of good and bad teams

    stats .. now "That's Baseball" (tee-hee)

    Youth is one thing.

Talented, well-coached youth is entirely something else.
