Thread: Have Ragin' Cajuns turned corner?

  1. UL Baseball Have Ragin' Cajuns turned corner?

Desperate times usually produce desperate coaches.

UL's baseball team, which had lost nine of its previous 11 games because of struggles at the plate, on the mound and in the field, responded Tuesday with an 11-2 blowout of Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

It marked the most runs scored by the Cajuns this year as they tied a season high with 11 hits. Freshman Michael Cook posted another strong effort on the mound after throwing 6.2 innings of one-run ball to give preseason Sun Belt favorite UL its first road win of the season.

When you consider the actual "hits" we got against LaTech... PLUS the number of other times we put the bat on the ball (which, of course, is the first thing that must happen to GET a hit)... I think we have turned the corner a bit. And our defense was sured up a bit, considering we played 7 2/3 innings of error-less ball.

I was pumped about beating Tech but I feel like you have to temper that enthusiasm a little bit. I say this because of the mid week game pitching. I don't know who they pitched but I do know that we don't pitch our best pitcher in mid week games so I assume that everyone else does the same. If we can't win conference series on the weekends then we haven't turned anything. I'm want to see how we do this weekend before I get really excited again. But it was a very nice win against an improving La Tech team. And Michael Cook is looking like the real deal.

We'll be able to tell this weekend if we have turned the corner or not. We desperately need to take 2 of 3 from Fla. Atl. A sweep would be ideal, but I'll take what we can get. If we get swept, or only win 1, then we are in big trouble as far as the regular conference season is concerned.

    I have faith though.
