LOUISIANA - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns softball team completed the sweep of IUPUI on Tuesday night in run-rule fashion, claiming a 14-0 win in five innings at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park.

The Cajuns (17-5) pounded out five hits including four doubles to score 14 runs and claim the second game of the twin bill in decisive fashion. Five different Cajuns collected hits in the game, with three separate players collecting multiple hits.

Vanessa Soto (San Diego, Calif.) paced all Cajuns in the second game. She finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and a team-best five RBI.

A tandem of slappers each had a pair of hits in the game. Vallie Gaspard (Maurice, La.) and Karli Hubbard (Lafayette, La.) both finished the game 2-for-2. Gaspard scored a run and drove in a pair of runs, while Hubbard scored two runs while driving in another.

Senior Brooke Brodhead (Lafayette, La.) had just one hit, but made it count. Her bases loaded base-clearing double was good for three RBI. She also had a walk and two runs scored.

Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) saw her nine-game hitting streak snapped during the game, but drew a pair of walks, scoring two runs.

Louisiana received a pair of stellar performances in the circle to secure the shutout.

Donna Bourgeois (Lafayette, La.) started the game for the Ragin’ Cajuns. She worked 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four batters.

Bourgeois was relieved by Brittany Cuevas (Brazoria, Texas). The sophomore fanned three batters in 2.1 innings of no-hit ball.

On the day, the Cajuns pitching staff combined for 10.0 innings, with two shutouts, including a perfect game. The pitchers struck out 20 of the 31 batters faced and held the Jaguars to one hit and a .032 batting average.

Conversely, the Ragin’ Cajuns offense finished the double-dip 20-for-43 (.465) with six doubles and a home run. UL scored 26 runs in just 8.0 innings of offense. The Cajuns were aided by 19 walks and a pair of hit batters. UL struck out just three times in 64 total plate appearances. Louisiana base runners combined for six total stolen bases.

The Ragin’ Cajuns softball team returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 15 as they begin an 11-game road trip. The Cajuns open up Sun Belt Conference play over the weekend with three games against Middle Tennessee.
