UL to play the IUPUI Lady Jaguars at 5:00 p.m.
UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns softball team returns home for a doubleheader with IUPUI on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at the Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park.
The Cajuns (15-5) are returning home after participating in the 2008 Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas. Louisiana claimed three victories in the tournament including a 2-1 extra-inning win over No. 3 Texas A&M.
The game will mark the first time in a week that the Cajuns will play at home. The last time the Cajuns played at home was Tuesday, Mar. 4, when they swept Nicholls State in a double dip, 11-3 and 12-0.
For IUPUI, the games will be the first of the season. The Jaguars finished the 2007 campaign with a 14-32 record.
The softball team had a pair of players earn conference accolades for their performances on the week. Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) and Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) were honored by the conference for the efforts on the field last week.
The award is the second of the season for Brignac and the first of the year for Tankersley. The Cajuns swept the first Sun Belt Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards of the year as Brignac and Melissa Verde (Beaumont, Texas) were both honored.
Following the twin bill, the Ragin’ Cajuns will once again hit the road, playing 10 games in a row on the road.
The Cajuns open up Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 15 with a doubleheader against Middle Tennessee.
Along with 10 regular season road games is an exhibition game with the USA Olympic Team. The game will mark the first of two meetings against the USA Olympic team, with the other coming on Apr. 19 in Sulphur, La.
