Most of these sound legit, but $75,000 for a balcony handrail? Is it covered in 14K gold?!?

Might be replacing the balcony as well as the hand rails.

Does Pennington really need 50million? How about addressing some of the overall state maintenance issues before we build more?

  5. Default Re: Maintenance priorities for UL's campus

LSU presitge > UL basic necessities (see: French House moving from ~20 on list of priorities to #1, as well as the new cries for untold millions for Pennington)

Sadly, the trend will become worse now with the Baton Rouge gang running the state. Hopefully our improved Legislative standing will help, but I doubt it.

Pennington is a world class research institution that receives far less funding than similar places around the country.

OK, how much revenue does the state recieve from it? Should the state be responsible for funding it as much as they do, when you have other universities that have for more pressing needs? Is it worth giving all of that money to Pennington, when it could be used to better the lives and educations of all of the students?

I really would like to know, because I'm not terribly familiar with that place. As I understand it, being that it's a part of the LSU System, it recieves money from the state's higher education funds. To me, it should position itself to get more grants and private dollars, and become (more or less) self-sufficient with the research it turns out.

Fine, but until we fix all of the maintenance neglect that has taken place over decades, we do not need to give any handouts for new state building construction. If what you say is true, then there should be no problem with getting federal funding (grants) and companies to invest in this world class institution.

UL is a world class research institution that recieves far less funding than similar places around the country. That's why we have broken down boilers in half of our buildings.

No one thinks Pennington doesn't deserve funding. There are more pressing needs, however, at other institutions. I hope you can understand how some people could be unsympathetic to Pennington when we have problems with funding basic maintainance and upkeep.

But they did win a National Championship in football! So, there you go. That justifies all the rest.

Y'know Z, The empire will get away with what they can. We know what they're about.

It's the brain dead fools in the rest of the state that make me want to flush this state down the drain.

The majority of college students in this state don't go to LSUA&M-BR. Yet, the majority of them and their parents root for LSUA&M-BR. So much so that they don't give a rat's back end about their own schools' being given the shaft by the empire.

If the empire wanted their shirts off of their backs these imbeciles would give it to them.

It's the sorriest case of co-dependent behavior I've ever seen, and it's evidence of just how narrow minded most people in this state really are and why this state will continue to be the joke of the nation.

The best thing that could ever happen to improve the lives of the citizens of this state is for the empire to embark on about a 20 year stretch of absolute futility in the sporting arena. Taking people's attention away towards more important things in life.

Then, maybe, enough people will wake the freak up and realize the state is broken on many levels and needs to be completely revamped.

Wonder if half of the 50 million is from the deficit they were in and made know to everyone that they were 25 million in the hole? This was the same time LSU wanted to give nearly bankrupt UNO to the UL system as well as the LSUE and LSUA junior colleges in exchange for LaTech!

LSU will always get the LIONS(tiggers) share of the monies even with a Bobby Jindal in office.

UL just has to continue to more with less.
