  1. UL Golf Oakborne to Host Louisiana Classics

Oakbourne Country Club was founded in 1955 and is one of the oldest member owned private clubs in the area. Oakbourne was the home course for the well known PGA Champions & Ryder Cup Players Jay and Lionel Hebert.

We currently house many of the Hebert Brothers' memorabilia in our "Hebert" Room dedicated to the brothers and their families. Oakbourne Country Club provides facilities for the full enjoyment of its membership: an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, clubhouse, swimming pool and a full service food and beverage operation.

Acadiana - Two rounds of the 23rd Annual Louisiana Classics are in the books following play on Monday at Oakborne CC.

Colorado trailed by 10 strokes after the morning round, but notched a second-round low 4-under par to take a four stroke lead over Richmond. Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns sit in fifth place, poised just eight strokes behind the Buffaloes.

The Spiders’ Jordan Utley leads all players after posting back-to-back under par rounds. Utley (-4) holds a slim one shot edge over SMU’s Kelly Kraft.

The Cajuns Thomas Disch, playing as an individual, sits in a four-way tie for third place with a two-round total of even par.

UL’s Devin Carrey (+2), Michael Smith (+3) and Thomas Petts (+4) are all in the top 25 heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Classics will finish on Tuesday with an 8:30am shotgun start.

In the morning round, almost every team except for Kansas struggled with the thick humid air and swirling winds. The 7,141-yard course played nearly one-half club longer due to the tough conditions.

The Jayhawks used Walt Koebel’s 69 and even-par cards from Brad Hopfinger and Zach Pederson en route to a team score of 1-over par. KU entered the afternoon with a six-shot lead over defending champion Southeastern (La.), but fell to eighth place after an 18-over par team score in the afternoon. The Lions are in third place, five strokes behind CU.

The Cajuns were tied for eighth after the first 18 holes. UL’s Smith posted a team-best 74 in the opening round.
