Hey everyone, and "hold on" you Cajun baseball fans.. It has to flip at some point because if it doesn't then "That's (not) Baseball" (grins).. In any event, we'll have week 4 of our weekly visit with Cajun's assistant John Szefc. Also In the last half of the hour, Jerry Babb returns to the Sportsnote airwaves to touch base and tell us what he has been up to since graduation and about his thinking as he prepares to travel up to Green Bay for his second attempt to make it in the NFL..
What concerns me more than anything is that this was not supposed to be a rebuilding year, but a reloading year and a continuation of the success from last year. I know it is still early (not really), but if this year doesn't turn around, we are looking at another potentially long year next season since we will be losing all of our senior leadership (Hawkins, Moody, Farquar, Solich, Glass, Gisclair, Hatfield etc....) and will be relying on Freshmen and Sophmores. We will truly be rebuilding next year.
Bottomline I don't see a leader on the field. I sat front row behind home plate Saturday for game 1 and after errors and meetings on the pitchers mound there was no fire, no leadership. They would all just kind of put there heads down and walk back to position. After game 1 I saw Harmon (I think? #11) took a big group of players out to left field and he was getting fired up and yelling, it got me hyped up but then they came out for game two and layed another egg. if you actually look at the players they look shell shocked. "You can have everyone tell you how good you are until they are blue in the face, but if you don't go out there and show it, it's all just hot air and smoke."
At the risk of being too critical...I would say 'yes and no'. We ARE certainly going to be losing some seniors...But I don't think that we're losing too many leaders. I'm not saying that there's no leadership on this team, but I think it's an area that's lacking.
Somebody's got to step up to fotenot and tell him to get the freaking spring out of his glove. Somebody's got to step up to Hawkins and Griffen and tell them to put the ball in play. LeFleur looked like he could be that guy on saturday when he had a hard hit triple and a hard hit double.
Somebody's got to stand on a table in the middle of the clubhouse and point at every single pair of eyes watching him, including his own, and make it known that this BS will not stand, and if anyone's comfortable with it, then they need to leave.
This has now become more than beating LSU or Tulane or any other RPI game, this is more than preseason rankings, this is more than making a regional or a super regional. This all now comes down to who's got the stones, and who's got the pride to not let it continue.
Where is Grant Derouen? Is he injured? He can't do any worse than what we have on the field now.
