Late in Saturday’s game against Houston, the UL men’s basketball team was looking like it was about to blow a big opportunity to get a win from a power conference team. But defense and a big run to start the overtime session helped the Ragin’ Cajuns to escape for a win and get some momentum going towards the New Year.

UL was up 65-59 with less than five minutes left in the game, but the Cougars went on a 10-3 run to take a one-point lead with 53 seconds left. But a crucial steal by the Cajuns allowed guard Elfrid Payton to tie the game on a free throw to send it to overtime, and a 7-0 run to start the extra session helped UL to pull out a 79-76 win.
