UL - Tuesday, March 11, 2008 marks the First annual "Shamrocks and Softball" prevention of child abuse event hosted by Kappa Delta Sorority with the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team.
The 18th-ranked UL softball team will be hosting the IUPUI Jaguars for a 5 p.m. game at Alfred and Helen Lamson/Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park. Members of the local Gamma Kappa Chapter will be in attendance to support the Cajuns as well as promote the prevention of child abuse by distributing blue ribbons, a symbol of Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA).
According to recent PCAA statistics, the number of children abused or neglected in the United States grew by 33 percent to reach a level of 3,244,000 in the last decade and at least three children die each day from abuse or neglect in the United States.
The members of the University of Louisiana Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority are proud to host a Shamrock bingo on March 16 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Ascension Day School Gym located at 1030 Johnston Street to benefit Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (PCAL) and Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA). Their will be prizes, door prizes, and even auction items available! Also, Look for Kappa Delta's on the corner of Rex St. and Saint Mary's during Shamrock week, March 11-16.
Founded in 1897, Kappa Delta Sorority began supporting Prevent Child Abuse America as one of its national philanthropies in 1981, and began the annual nationwide Shamrock Event in 1983. More than $8.2 million has been raised through the Shamrock Event to benefit child abuse prevention efforts across the country.
