A most improbable ending, Cajuns down 6-4 bottom of the ninth as Troy State had to come back on the field after what seemed like a game ending third out.

Due to catcher interference the teams came back on the field and with two outs and only Ryan Core on base due to catcher interference.

The pitcher is obviosly shaken-having thought he had a Trojan save in hand-walks Charles Redmond.

With two on base, two out, bottom of the ninth, the hero of the game, was LA-Holy Cross product, Rhett Buras.

The first baseman hit a walkoff 3 run homer blast that left no doubt that the 6'3" right hander had dramatically given the fans something to cheer about.

  5. UL Baseball Dramatic Home Runs Earn Split

The home run giveth, and the home run taketh away.

LAFAYETTE — Louisiana's baseball team was the benefactor of the home run ball in the opener of Saturday’s twinbill, with pinch hitter Rhett Buras turning in a dramatic game-winning shot in a 7-6 win.

However, two hours later, it was a two-run sixth-inning home run by Troy State’s Glen Hardy that broke up a pitchers’ duel and provided a 3-1 win for the Trojans.

“We’re at home, and we ought to be taking advantage offensively,” said Ragin’ Cajun head coach Tony Robichaux. “Give them (Troy State) credit for their pitching, but if we don’t hit it makes us have to pitch perfect.”

Cajun second-game starter Jered Salazar (1-2) only allowed three hits in the seven-inning nightcap, but in the sixth inning leadoff batter and Berwick native Tab Beadle reached on an error. One hitter later, Hardy homered to right center to break a 1-1 tie.

“He made one mistake,” Robichaux said, “but when you hit as poorly as we are right now you can’t even afford one mistake.”

  7. Default Timely hitting

Cajuns get enough runs to back Faught effort

LAFAYETTE — Louisiana’s baseball team didn’t do much to shake its early-season hitting slump here Sunday, but this time it was quality over quantity.

Besides, Austin Faught wasn’t worried about the pressure.

Two timely RBI singles and a sterling pitching performance by Faught helped the Ragin’ Cajuns escape with a 2-1 victory over Troy State in the finale of a three-game series, giving the Cajuns their second series win in as many tries this year.

“Until we get our hitting going, the other two parts (pitching and fielding) have to step up,” said Cajun coach Tony Robichaux. “We did that most of the weekend. Today, we got some big at-bats at some big times.”

The Cajuns, after splitting a twinbill with the Trojans on Saturday, got RBI singles in the fifth and seventh innings from Bryan Sneed and Kevin Preau, and that was all that Faught needed.
