I agree, HUD may have to give his DC a bit more control of the scheme. We do not have the personel for a 3-4. I like how Willis states it as a "multiple look". We should get back to a base 4-3. Most of all we need to upgrade the talent at LB and DB. We are one player away at each position.

When HUD let Stewart go it's because he wanted to go 4-3. He wanted someone that could truly teach a 4-3 and said that when he announced the hiring of willis. I guess they felt we had more depth at LB'er than DL so went 3-4 this year. Jalen fields leaving didn't help. Hopefully we get more depth next year and go to a 4-3 which is what willis was brought in to coach. You could still be multiple at times with a guy like tovell but if rather see is have 4 lineman majority of the time. If you remember we switched to a 4-3 towards the end of the year last year and the defense got a lot better, but that wasn't Stewart's comfort zone. Hopefully next year with Jacoby briscoe and a few of the younger guys being added and only losing McCray we will have an upgrade on the DL, at least depth wise. I think LB will be a great position of talent and depth. We have a lot of good LB's now. We lose a damn good one in Anderson but also gain trey granier and 2 standout freshman. If they can find that one lockdown corner either on the roster or through juco, this defense has the chance to make huge strides. You only need one guy that you can put on an island. The other side can ways get help but you need 1 shutdown. What we all wanted is coming, what the coaches planned is coming, we just all thought we were gonna see it this year... A year early in my opinion.

I sit in section a. I dismiss most men's room talk as ignorance and alcohol. That being said I did hear someone suggest HUD should be fired after the Moan-roe game. Someone correctly pointed out his stupidity.

I went to the Texas St. game and both offense and defense played awesome. We could have at least scored in the 60's if Hud didn't play the second team most of the 4th qrt. with the score after 3 qtrs 45-3. Texas St. had one of the top rushing defenses at the time and we had 212 yrds rushing and 572 total yrds without most the first team in the 4th qtr. The defense held them to 196 total yrds. The weak spot was special teams giving up 2 ko returns making the score look closer than it should have. We really welcomed Texas St. to the SBC that night after they just whipped Wyoming.

You are correct. It was performances like this on the defensive side that made fans wonder why we saw performances of the opposite nature against poor opponents such as Georgia State and NMSU.

The only thing I will disagree with you on here is the lockdown corner thing. In Hud's time here, we've had Bentley, White and Moten, two of which are in the NFL and we never ran any type of man defense to utilize their cover skills. We could get the next Patrick Peterson and I believe we'd run cover two or cover 3. Sorry BigBuf, do I sound too negative?

I'm with you on that. But all you need is 1 to run it, you don't need 2. Bentley and white still didn't give 15 yard cushions either. I'm hoping HUD lets his guys do what they were hired to do. The great ones delegate and oversee not micromanage. I'm hoping we just don't quite have the personnel to do what willis wants and that will be addressed in the offseason.

Coach needs to be given alot of credit. He's done so much while being provided with so little. When I think about the injuries on D that we've had to deal with, he gets even more credit.

However, as some have stated, now that he's given us a taste of success, the status quo is no longer good enough. Fortunately (and unfortunately) for us the status quo is 8 regular season wins and a bowl win. If he wants less complaining, then he needs to exceed the new status quo. For that to be done, we first need to get rid of our swiss cheese defense. Then we need to win the SBC outright, get at least 9 wins in the regular season, be ranked in the top 25 at the end of the regular season, and sell out the Superdome for a NOLA bowl victory.

p.s.- if the powers that be are listening, i'd advise you to do whatEVER you can to pay HUD what he deserves and keep him here. He's worth every penny, and if you give him the resources that he needs and show him how much you value him, he will not disappoint or fall short.

    Staff continuity is pretty important..
So as well as keeping HUD, how about the assistant coaches salary pool? Is that being addressed?
Jay Johnson is probably sniffing around, with his offensive stats in tow..
WR Coach? Recruiting coordinator? Any one else we need to keep around?
New position coaches, I would think, are hard to break in..seems like we have some talented ones.

We had only one defensive first team all sunbelt, one second team and one honorable mention. We only had three senior starters returning and with Gillis getting hurt, the defense was throw into a unusual line up. We had 3 out of 4 starter on the D line returning and only two other wise on the D and one of those got hurt and was out for the season. Also with injuries to Tig, Chris Hill and Anayama the LB corps were constantly getting moved around. There were injuries at all areas of the D and it's tough to build a cohesive unit with all that going on. But hey it's football and injuries will happen.....but as fans we should look at the WHOLE year not just a few choice areas that you think will confirm what you think.

These players and coaches have accomplished more than anyone else before them and they deserve all the praise and admiration we can give them for giving us such times of plenty and the deserve none of the hate and negativity that this board seems to love to spew.

I'm with coach....haters start jumping....we can't afford the drag you are putting on our high speed bus!
Gee Big Buff, I have never seen such a BS group of words. Sure we are young at those positions, but we did not improve. I can tell YOU and HUD this, I would say the same thing to his or your face. This crap about never been good and be glad for small goodies is pure BS. I can promise you Hud had no such goals this year. He wanted that championship without a passenger. HE IS the head coach, he will never rat out his team who just backed into a championship. Fans on the other hand have no reason to cover up weaknesses.
