UL - Before throwing out the first pitch for UL's home-opener, former Cajun and Japanese pitching great Gene Bacque described being honored by his alma mater as a magical experience he would never forget.
The game itself on Friday night was another matter for the Cajuns.
Another rough showing on the mound and at the plate for UL resulted in a 6-0 loss to Southern Miss on "Gene Bacque Night" at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
The Cajuns, ranked No. 25 by Baseball America, dropped their fourth straight this season and lost their first home-opener since 1993 after giving up two home runs and managing only two hits off Southern Miss starter Barry Bowden.
