Ok, so what justifies that prediction? It's not like toolame is an offensive juggernaught. While the Sun Belt is not a powerhouse conference, looking at toolames record I believe they only beat two D1A team with winning records and one of them , ECU, had 9 players suspended for that game. The outcome of this game will depend largely on our team and whether they play as they did against ArkState, WKU and a Troy or like we did against SoAl and moanroe. Turnovers will be key.
I will be happy to explain my prediction although it wasn't asked for previously. The main reason is that I don't think Broadway will play. Our offense begins and ends with the QB and I just don't think that any of our freshmen are at a point where they can come in a big game like this and lead an offense consistently during the course of the entire game. So while Tulane is not a juggernaut, neither are we without Broadway. Outside of that, i just feel its a bad matchup for us. They play the run exceptionally well and that will be our bread and butter without Broadway. I do think we'll have success running the ball as I think our running game is amongst the best they will have seen but if we are one dimensional, they may be able to limit its overall effectiveness. Their D-Line is extremely active and our OL have had trouble keeping teams off of the QB plain and simple. Their secondary is opportunistic and if they force our young QB's into some poor throws, I don't like our chances.
Also, our defense has been sketchy at best the last 5 weeks or so. We've made some pretty average QB's look pretty damn good this year. Montana is not his father for sure but if we don't get any pressure and allow them to find holes in the zone, he can be very effective against us. You are right, turnovers will be key and we have obviously had a bad run in that category the last two games, with or without Broadway. I think the game is overall a fairly low scoring game and we will need somebody like a McGuire, Surgent or perhaps Robinson to make a really big play or two.
If we can adjust our defensive approach and attack a bit more and force Montana into some bad choices, I think we can definitely win but we have not been the same team the last few weeks of the season that we were in the middle of the season.
They don't need to stack the box to stop the run, that makes me very nervous if we have a freshman QB
Correct. Tulane is driven by their defense getting stops and keeping them in good field position. Like Hammer said, they are not a juggernaut offensively so they rely on efficiency and field position. Our offense would be a load for them if we had a healthy Broadway running the option out of the pistol to keep them guessing but Haack won't really bring that to the game.
Simply put, we will need the defense that played against Texas State, ASU or WKU in the second half to win.
