NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana senior left-handed pitcher Hunter Moody (Clinton, La.) earned the Ragin' Cajuns' first Sun Belt Conference honor of the 2008 season Tuesday as the Silliman Institute product was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.

Moody, a Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection, struck out nine batters in six innings of work, earning the victory against Texas Tech on Saturday at the UTSA Baseball Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Moody gave up just one hit and did not allow a runner past second base, while returning nine in a row at one point.

Moody and junior Matt Broussard (Breaux Bridge, La.) combined to throw the one-out shutout - the first since Feb. 22, 1984, when current Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux and former Major League pitcher Xavier Hernandez accomplished the feat in a 6-0 season-opening victory at Northwestern State.

Last season, Moody went 8-3 with a 4.13 ERA and 75 strikeouts following his 2006 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year campaign as a sophomore.

Louisiana returns to the diamond Wednesday when the 25th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns travel to New Orleans to square off against the 18th-ranked Tulane Green Wave at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
