Thread: Unofficial Fans Vote....Who starts at QB in NO Bowl?

  1. Default Re: Unofficial Fans Vote....Who starts at QB in NO Bowl?

First of all, we have 2 weeks to make a decision at QB, implement a gameplan, and go through it in order to familiarize. Being that this is a FAN OPINION question, I believe Haack is the correct option for us. Especially if EMcG is a full go. Lots of really smart ppl within the program have been high on Brooks for a long time. You can't just scrap all that because of one stinker. The guy came in under enormous pressure against a rival and performed extremely well. He is more than capable.

I understand the QB running threat and I don't disagree that it's a legit point. But a potent passing attack also allows EM and Harris to run rampant as well. And let's be honest, Broadway has left a lot to be desired in the passing game this season.

Nixon can serve a purpose in a limited role, but let's have Brooks do what he does. If he can put it together in an environment like the NOLA bowl, it could bode well for all of us going forward.

Also, I think the offensive line play (as well as Andre snapping the ball with some consistency) is the real story behind this decision. We'll see..

They need to give brooks a lot of short high percentage passes to get his confidence up, bubble screens, TE in the flat. They can say it all they want but they can't expect him to hit the big throws that broadway does right out of the gate. Let him get a feel for the speed of the game. I don't think the coaches put him in the best possible position to succeed the other night. The turnovers didn't help either.

The short passes need to be quick hits so he doesn't have to wait for the route to develop and telegraph the throw by staring down the receiver. On that pick 6 he stared at the spot of the throw immediately at the snap. Everyone in Mobile knew where that ball was going.

THEY WILL LOAD UP THE BOX TO THE MAX----To the MAX!!!! They will use there very talented second and 3rd year defensive backs and lock on man with some zone as they have been one of the top teams in the country with pics!!!! We will need to mix it up and get EMCG a lot of touches!!!

Watch for some 2 QB sets with Haack and Nixon if Broadway can't go. Double passes, Reverses with the option to pass, and halfback passes will be a big part of the game plan. Once we hit a couple, Our RBs will wear these guys down.

*Lets keep it clean, they are just kids! I know we all get a little overly passionate about our beloved Cajuns. I know I have been at times.

I do have an opinion base on a small sample. Of the three quarterbacks Nixion looks like the guy that can handle the pressure of the moment. Is he a better quarterback at this time, I have not a clue, but I recognize people who are cool under fire and he is. Just like anybody could read Brauchlae with eyes could recognize the fear in him by his body language, and face on television games.
Here's the thing. You ever watch one versus 100 or who wants to be a millionaire? The majority are right like 90 plus per cent of the time. From what everyone could see, It sounds to me as though Nixon is the best choice. The problem with a poll like this is the coaches only have a one out of three chance of picking the same guy the crowd usually agrees on. This means that based upon the participation in this poll which has a LOT of enthusiasm from the forum and is one in which I would normally enjoy participating in myself, that the coaching staff will be opening themselves up to a lot more of the same unmerited criticism that they are already claiming to be getting without just cause. So, only in this particular case, do I see a poll which should be a lot of fun and build fan interest possibly assisting in causing more stress related problems for our coaches, which they obviously don't need right now.

Just to say, if things don't change, we're looking at a 31-10 loss to Tulane.
    You could be correct

We don't have enough of a contraversy at QB to really question who the coaches play. If Broadway's healthy... it's a no brainer. From the other three... I only have the last regular season game to draw any information. I felt Nixon looked way more confident and comfortable running the offense. He was in clean-up duty... but so was Haack... somewhat... in the ULM game. I have no problem with whatever the coaches decide. I do believe we need to consider that Tulane will very likely stack the box, bull rush us, and we will have little to no time to allow any QB the luxury of dropping back, looking upfield, and hunting for an open receiver. It appeared that we thought we could pass protect for Haack the other night... and that didn't happen then... and I doubt it will against Tulane.

I do believe we need to come out and establish a ground and pound... and make Tulane's defense pay for what I think will be some serious sell-outs to stuff us (overstacking the box and/or all out QB blitzes). We need to see if we can pound them with our big uglies and soften up their DL. If we play smart... I think our offense... even with one of the backups... can crack Tulane's defense. We must move the chains, own the clock, and find pay dirt... and keep our defense off the field.

We really need our OL to help Alonzo have some success early in this game IMO. If we can, I think we can balance out and run our offense.

Tulane is gonna stack the box and blitz giving no respect to the pass. We will need to roll the QB out of the pocket to buy him some time or we're toast. We can't run every play on this team, especially with a loaded box. I really don't see us winning this game unless Broadway can play and play at his normal level.

I agree, if BW can't go then the qb has got to be able to sprint out of the pocket to throw or hit the hot read. If not we won't do well.

    I have no crystal ball.........

I'm telling you now. Broadway is about 75% right now. Surgery was to speed up the healing process and to get him available for the bowl game. He got a good report from doc's about his recovery. He's going to go through all of the practices w/out throwing for the next couple of days. He'll run with the 2nd team in case there are any setbacks, in order to get another QB "ready" as a just-in-case scenario plays out.

He'll have his conditioning and legs underneath him, while doing some light ball handling drills to keep fresh. He'll begin to throw next week and have about 3 or so days to really prep and get his game ready.

It'll be a game time decision (to keep Tulane off-balanced). Broadway will be under center, we'll use a 70/30% run/pass mix, with Broadway snapping off 20-30 yard runs with the read option plays. His arm will be good enough to fling quick screens, slants, etc....but he's the running threat needed to keep the Tulane defense honest.
