with conference play coming up fast, we're kind of in the lab right now. we'll be in the thick of things before too long.

I like your positive attitude, but we had more than 3 bad innings. We didn't hit the ball worht a damn all weekend. We had bases loaded with 0 outs against Oral Roberts and only push accross one run. That is horrible. And all of the strikeouts. There is no excuse for that. We are way too selective at the plate. I have said this for the last 4 or 5 years, and it looks like this year will be no different. We have great starting pitching, but you can't count on your pitchers to throw 1 and 2 run games every game.
If you read what I wrote in the other post you see I said hitting was a problem but if we stay out of the 3+ run innings we still win...those innings lost the games. Yes if we hit the ball we could have won but even with hitting the way it was if we stay out of those big innings we still win. Robe tried different lineups this weekend and used some new faces...this was the first weekend facing an opponent other than ourselves....if in another 10 games we are having the same probs out of our bats then it will be time to fix something.
alright people, step away from the cliff. I've noticed over the years, that opening weekend is ussually good for a down game, and add that we played 4 these weekend, we managed to have 2 from a hitting standpoint. While we struck out alot, I still have promise in this team and the reason is that Szefc's coaching style promotes alot of swinging. Right now, the problem is not swinging strikeouts, its more striking out looking.
I think there is alot that you could take away positively from the last 2 days. First, the bullpen was really good, and most people thought that would be our biggest problem this season. Wagley, bulliard, broussard, and cook all look to be rocks in the pen. On the starting side, I'm not worried about solich, hes a hell of a pitcher and hes gonna rebound to be the pitcher we know he is. With Glass, I was more impressed than anything based on the first 4 innings, if he is able to get his endurance back, he's proving that his electric stuff is still there.
All in all, I want to see us get back up and going and rebound on wensday with a quality win.

Clutch I am fine with everything coach says and does. I just don't ever want to hear those words again, youth, young, inexperienced. Yea we have a few on this team, but after football, basketball men and women, and yes even the young softball team, this baseball team is supposed to be ready for 2008. BOP has said all along last year we were a little ahead of schedule, but we were aiming for 2008 to be a really good year. And dang few teams have really good years with the word youth attached.
I agree...for basketball I thought the arguement was valid, in football I didn't think it should have been used as much as it was, but baseball cannot use that excuse at all. I just think people over reacted to these 2 losses, because we were working on different lineups and seeing what works and didn't...apparently now we know what doesn't lol How about that pitching though?
