Damn! I don't no where I got the idea that you wore 83! Now that I think about it, I do seem to recall an "8" and a "2"! BTW, I don't think Minden was the first stop for "wet" things, unless you're a LOT younger than me. When I was in HS, Webster Parish was D-R-Y. We had to go to the Bossier Parish line to get liquid refreshments of the adult variety!

What the hell! I wore 52. Only problem with this string is it was in basketball.

    3/8/08 scrimmage report

    The Good:

defense had a couple of int's and fumble recoverys
    FG kicker lood good
TE's had a few catches and will be used more this season, #88 looked good
Desormeaux and Fenroy look good running as usual
LB's played well and will the strength of the D
    the entire team hustled
Jake Delhomme showed up and spoke to the team

    The not so good:
the D-line although played good look really small
WR's did not play well. D. Smith did not play.

For those of you who've been lucky enough to make the scrimmages and/or practices, how has the offense changed if at all? I know we are looking to add more passing to the gameplan this year but that was supposed to happen last year also. Are we still running the zone option out of the shotgun or are we moving under center a bit more?

  6. UL Football PRACTICE #11...

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns second spring scrimmage was dominated again by the defense. The Cajuns defense had an interception, two fumble recoveries and two sacks and didn’t allow the offense to sustain any lengthy drives.

The Cajuns offense, playing with a mix-and-match offensive line, fell victim to five high snaps, four false start penalties and three dropped passes that significantly impacted the success of drives.

“We had too many turnovers and penalties offensively,” head coach Rickey Bustle said. “I didn’t think the offense was very sharp.

“Defensively, we played with a lot of passion. They played really well.”

In the first half, the offense made the most of their four possessions with the ball placed near the end zone. Starting from the 25-yard line, a long pass from Michael Desormeaux to Erik Jones led to Tyrell Fenroy’s six-yard touchdown run. On the offense’s second series from the 25-yard line, a defensive penalty for facemask – one of only two penalties called against the defense all day – helped set-up redshirt freshman Jonathan Thomas’ one-yard scoring plunge.

From the six-yard line, the defense earned a stop on the first series, holding the offense to a 21-yard field goal by Drew Edmiston. The offense scored on the first play of the next series courtesy of a six-yard run by Matt Dupre.

“There are a few people playing out of position on the offense because of injuries,” Bustle added. “It’s not an excuse; some guys need to step up.

“It’s tough to get any consistency, especially with the young quarterbacks, but we have to get better.”

Desormeaux played only one series in the second half, giving way to redshirt freshmen Chris Masson and Brad McGuire.

The defense allowed only one field goal in the second half, stopping five series on downs, collecting a fumble recovery and watching two other field goal attempts sail wide.

“We’ll work some two-minute situations over the next week and be ready to scrimmage again on Saturday.”

The Cajuns have three practices remaining prior to next Saturday’s spring game. With the plethora of injuries affecting the team, there are not enough players to divide the squad into two teams. The format for the spring game will be the offense against the defense.

INJURY UPDATE: The team lost two more offensive linemen during the scrimmage. Tackle Brad Bryant left in the first half with a left knee injury. Guard Brad Bustle left in the second half with a right knee injury. Bustle is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday afternoon. Both Bryant and Bustle will miss the remainder of the spring. The Cajuns enter the final week of spring football with only eight healthy offensive linemen.

HALFTIME...The Cajuns received a surprise visit from Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme. Delhomme, who was home taking a break from rehab following elbow surgery, gave an impromptu speech to the team during halftime. Delhomme quoted Panthers teammate John Kasay in stating “The pain of discipline is nothing like the pain of regret.”

We still run the zone option more than anything else with Desormeaux in the game. We did go under center a few more times than usual. The biggest difference is we looked and threw to the TE's much more. The TE's had 3 or 4 catches. The WR's dropped many balls and did not look good. The defense looked to blitz more and they look much more comfortable with the scheme than last year and I spoke with the D-coor. "KF" and he said the same thing. When KF gets his players our defense will be really good this guy can coach.

Last year during the Spring and Fall practices we were throwing to the TE a lot more but once the SR started it didn't happen as much....except to Kevin Belton and it was always for a TD lol

We need one of our young receivers to step up and become a possession threat. I like D. Smith and hope he gets a lot of looks. Chery is gritty guy who I love as a leader but just seems to get too inconsistent at times. We need one of the younger guys to step up and take pressure off of the outside and bring it up the middle of the field. I hear that Aubrey has looked good at TE and I think that is a good idea to move him as a pass catching TE.

If D. Smith becomes eligible he will be our #1 receiver and will be solid. My prediction will be that Lance Kelly will be our #2 and our go to receiver next season. Jason Chery had the worst scrimmage of the day with 3 fumbles. Chery is fast but we need some possesion receivers.

    Default got lucky

running late again... as i walked i'm able to see the as it turned out the best play i saw, the rest of the day on offense.. a turning, twisting, semi dive and a catch of a long pass down the middle by ritchie falgout..

ps. lance already running with the "red" team, he looks comfortable and doubt if he doesn't stay and make many cheer for some years to come..

pss. # 83 dustie mack is the deep snapper

psss. kahouna add a 30 and come dunk with us (smiles)

pssss. may have been the bossier parish line.. where the interstate ended???

psssss. jake talked long time.. could have left out the kicker's quote.. i still can't believe he still with the panther's after he kicked off out of bounds in super bowl to give the pats the ball at the 40.. game over.. i bet he knows the "pain of regret" alright! (smiling)

pssssss. jerry babb on show monday 10th after coach szefc

Suspect someone has already thought of this; but after watching Chery a few times last year he should be moved to DB. Seems to be great at knocking balls down!
