I knew you had a "high" opinion of yourself (grins), but that is ree-diculous!

BTW, weren't you #83 with the Falcones? How about at Tech? That was was my number at dear ole Minden High! I'm kinda partial to wearers of that particular number.

keeping in step with our fun in here.. and not wanting to dampen your partialities... you could consider we wore the same number if you took my 82 (and went 1 higher)

was 26 when i drove west to shreveport, before I-10 finished, and i think (i apologize often for no memory) minden was the first stop that was "wet" ..

    PRACTICE #10...

The Ragin’ Cajuns final preparations for their second spring scrimmage concluded on Friday with a 90-minute practice inside the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility. The team practiced 10 periods in shorts and shoulder pads.

“Our goal (for Friday’s practice) was to brush up on the things we needed improvement on,” Cajuns cornerbacks coach Hurlie Brown said. “We needed to make the necessary corrections to be on the same page and get ready for the scrimmage.”

UL will scrimmage at Cajun Field at 10am on Saturday morning. The scrimmage calls for 10 offensive series in the first half, with the ball placed at various yard-lines. Each series will last until the offense scores, turns the ball over on downs or commits a turnover. The second half will be similar to the first, but the number of series will be determined based on how many plays were in the first half.

The team finished installing all its offensive and defensive packages on Wednesday, making the final six practice sessions a review of plays and players.

“It’s a matter of fine-tuning techniques and going out and letting the guys play,” Brown added. “The coaches need to see the guys fly around and make plays. We want to see what the players have learned and where they need additional teaching.

“They’re going to make mistakes, but we want them to make them at 100 miles-per-hour.”

INJURY UPDATE: It has been confirmed that redshirt freshman running back Julian Shankle broke his ankle and will miss the remainder of the spring. Shankle, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound back from Grand Prairie, Texas, originally injured the ankle in Monday’s practice.

Damn! I don't no where I got the idea that you wore 83! Now that I think about it, I do seem to recall an "8" and a "2"! BTW, I don't think Minden was the first stop for "wet" things, unless you're a LOT younger than me. When I was in HS, Webster Parish was D-R-Y. We had to go to the Bossier Parish line to get liquid refreshments of the adult variety!

What the hell! I wore 52. Only problem with this string is it was in basketball.

For those of you who've been lucky enough to make the scrimmages and/or practices, how has the offense changed if at all? I know we are looking to add more passing to the gameplan this year but that was supposed to happen last year also. Are we still running the zone option out of the shotgun or are we moving under center a bit more?

  10. UL Football PRACTICE #11...

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns second spring scrimmage was dominated again by the defense. The Cajuns defense had an interception, two fumble recoveries and two sacks and didn’t allow the offense to sustain any lengthy drives.

The Cajuns offense, playing with a mix-and-match offensive line, fell victim to five high snaps, four false start penalties and three dropped passes that significantly impacted the success of drives.

“We had too many turnovers and penalties offensively,” head coach Rickey Bustle said. “I didn’t think the offense was very sharp.

“Defensively, we played with a lot of passion. They played really well.”

In the first half, the offense made the most of their four possessions with the ball placed near the end zone. Starting from the 25-yard line, a long pass from Michael Desormeaux to Erik Jones led to Tyrell Fenroy’s six-yard touchdown run. On the offense’s second series from the 25-yard line, a defensive penalty for facemask – one of only two penalties called against the defense all day – helped set-up redshirt freshman Jonathan Thomas’ one-yard scoring plunge.

From the six-yard line, the defense earned a stop on the first series, holding the offense to a 21-yard field goal by Drew Edmiston. The offense scored on the first play of the next series courtesy of a six-yard run by Matt Dupre.

“There are a few people playing out of position on the offense because of injuries,” Bustle added. “It’s not an excuse; some guys need to step up.

“It’s tough to get any consistency, especially with the young quarterbacks, but we have to get better.”

Desormeaux played only one series in the second half, giving way to redshirt freshmen Chris Masson and Brad McGuire.

The defense allowed only one field goal in the second half, stopping five series on downs, collecting a fumble recovery and watching two other field goal attempts sail wide.

“We’ll work some two-minute situations over the next week and be ready to scrimmage again on Saturday.”

The Cajuns have three practices remaining prior to next Saturday’s spring game. With the plethora of injuries affecting the team, there are not enough players to divide the squad into two teams. The format for the spring game will be the offense against the defense.

INJURY UPDATE: The team lost two more offensive linemen during the scrimmage. Tackle Brad Bryant left in the first half with a left knee injury. Guard Brad Bustle left in the second half with a right knee injury. Bustle is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday afternoon. Both Bryant and Bustle will miss the remainder of the spring. The Cajuns enter the final week of spring football with only eight healthy offensive linemen.

HALFTIME...The Cajuns received a surprise visit from Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme. Delhomme, who was home taking a break from rehab following elbow surgery, gave an impromptu speech to the team during halftime. Delhomme quoted Panthers teammate John Kasay in stating “The pain of discipline is nothing like the pain of regret.”
