Thread: Hudspeth wants his Ragin' Cajuns to put teams away

  1. UL Football Hudspeth wants his Ragin' Cajuns to put teams away

With just two games remaining in the 2013 season – Saturday night’s regular-season finale at South Alabama, where an outright Sun Belt Conference title is the line for the Ragin’ Cajuns, and the Dec. 21 New Orleans Bowl vs. Tulane – UL coach Mark Hudspeth seems to have come to a conclusion about his football team.

It has been playing much too nice.

If Hud is pulling doors off the wall, I want a video.

I thought he said he had the team almost pulling doors of the wall?

He said he was maybe going to have to pull a couple doors off the hinges.

If Hud wants us to have a killer instinct, he better look at himself and his staff, as well as the players. We pretty clearly back off [especially defensively] when we get up by 2 scores. We also have a tendency to get away from what we do best when we get down by 10 points.

Don't get all upset; I am not calling for anyone's head; I just think if we want to finish people off, we have to be more aggressive schematically, and that isn't about players.

    Very well put.

I think its fair, as fans, to be critical of some of the philosophies and decision the staff makes especially on defense. We've all discussed them before and I've made my thoughts known for sometime. The only good thing is that making them after a loss is a lot easier and you take less crap rather than making them during a winning streak, no matter how apparent the issues are. LOL

Exactly. The players follow orders, most of the time (i.e., jumping routes, etc.) The coach has to set them up to correctly to win.

I'd settle for actually trying to play a proactive defense. The best defenses are always the ones that dictate what the offense can and can't do. They push the issue and make the offense respond to them. Remember back to the Pats and Colts days with Peyton? They would put up video game numbers all year and the Pats would just blitz and confuse Manning all game with different setups and blitz packages and they had the Colts number. This is just one example but you see it all the time in College. The high flying offense that is grounded by the defense who presses them into doing things they don't want to do. How about throwing different things at USA rather than the 3 man rush zone defense we've played ALL year?

In the game against ULM, he was the best player on the field and it wasn't even close....People give Browning all his props but this kid is just as good if you let him play that way. He's faster than Browning, at least right now that Browning has been injured most of the year, and he's accurate as well. I think he may have better targets than Browning overall. This team is scary and some of us here were saying this weeks ago. I felt this game would be tougher than the ULM game. I hope I'm wrong.

Hopefully we get the running game from wku/asu back that was putting together 9 minute scoring drives.
