Several special events in Dupré Library focus on preservation, celebration

UL will hold two Black History Month events today and Feb. 28 in Dupré Library that focus on celebrating and preserving the contributions of blacks.

Today's event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Guests include vocalist Anna Pierre; Hubert Tate, KLFY-TV10 reporter; Clyde Simien and Rickey Miniex, attorneys; and Danielle Fontenette, curator and director of the African American Museum in St. Martinville.

Then at 1 p.m., documentary filmmaker Rachel Emanuel will share her experience as producer and writer of the documentary, Take a Seat for Justice. The lecture will be held in the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room.

A series of workshops on Feb. 28 will focus on how to gather information and how to write oral histories.
