After a 10-day layoff, the nationally ranked UL softball team returns to action today.

The Lady Cajuns (3-0) still have two days remaining until their home debut on Friday in the 22nd Annual Louisiana Classics Tournament at Lamson Park. But before that, they travel to Lake Charles to take on McNeese State (2-8) at 5 p.m. today in a non-conference game.

With sophomore Brittany Cuevas still recovering from a shoulder injury, UL will start one of two freshman pitchers - reigning Gatorade National High School Player of the Year Ashley Brignac or Teurlings graduate Donna Bourgeois.

Brignac and Bourgeois teamed up to help the Cajuns win the Louisiana Tech Invitational, which was Feb. 9-10. The duo combined to give up three runs on 10 hits while striking out 30 batters to go 3-0.
