BATON ROUGE - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team upset nationally ranked New Mexico 4-2 on Sunday. The win moves the Cajuns to 6-1 on the year, while No. 62 NMU falls to 3-4.

The victory improves the Cajuns’ winning streak to five matches.

The Lady Cajuns clinched the match after picking up four wins in singles play. At the No. 1 position, freshman Julie Mazinova topped Ola Abou-Zekry 6-2, 6-3. Junior Angela Dangond posted a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Lucy Scott at No.4, while newcomer Bridget Marcovich defeated Emma Hayman 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Sophomore Marina Ruiz de Gauna topped Victoria Tessner 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

Sophomore Myrthe Molenveld fell to Sandra Zmak 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 at No. 2, and freshman Kim van der Horst’s match at No. 3 was unfinished.

The Lobos swept UL in doubles action. Mazinova and Molenveld fell to Scott and Zmak 8-3 at No. 1. Van der Horst and freshman Mia Gordon were defeated by Tessner and Jennifer Ryba 8-4 at No. 2. Teammates Dangond and Marcovich were defeated 8-2 at No. 3.

The Lady Cajuns return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21 when they face No. 24 Arkansas in Fayetteville. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
