UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team bested instate rival Louisiana Tech 7-0 on Saturday. The win improves the Cajuns to 5-1 on the year, while the Lady Techsters fall to 1-5.
In doubles play, the Cajuns won the point after picking up wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Sophomore Myrthe Molenveld and freshman Julie Mazinova defeated Rocio Juarez and Adriana Makawska 8-1 and No. 1, while newcomer Bridget Marcovich and junior Angela Dangond topped Alexandra Gaspar and Ashley Wedderburn 8-1 at No. 2.
In singles action, freshman Kim van der Horst bested Juarez 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and teammate Molenveld defeated Gaspar 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2.
At No. 3, Dangond topped Wedderburn 6-2, 7-5, while freshman Mia Gordon helped the Cajuns cause at No. 4 with her 6-2, 6-1 win over Makowska. Sophomore Marina Ruiz de Gauna defeated Mallory Smith 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.
The Cajuns will next compete on Sunday, Feb. 17 when they face New Mexico in Baton Rouge. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
