But that's the point, we hold out and NO Bowl could select AState (which is exactly what AState was hoping for) since we could still be accommodated by the other conference tie-in, namely GoDaddy. So then if SEC slot didn't open up in I Bowl we miss out on that allegedly "better" bowl and wind up in GoDaddy which then turns out to be about the worst case scenario (other than Detroit).
No problem with taking the sure thing that was in our best interest.
I said all along. IF a better bowl is available, by that I mean I commitment not just a feeler to gauge interest, then we should take it. With the Auburn win there is a big questions to wether the SEC gets into the NC game. if they don't all their bowls are full and if we would have waited ( and we lose to USA) we are possibly on the outside looking in. The commit to NOLA solves that issue.
SEC is still projected to get two into BCS bowls. A lot change tho bt now and Sat evening.
But that still does not excuse the admin from failing to listen to their pitch. It wasn't smart business.
Neither was not being upfront (some would say they lied) with the fans and boosters when they stated we were talking to various Bowls when in reality it appears they had already made up their minds. Don't be the Fossil-Lite, communicate and do it honestly with your fans and boosters.
Hammer, the evidence of this "call" had better be undeniable. It better be the recording of the conversation. And that recording better be abundantly clear that it was the I Bowl's sole attempt to invite UL... and that we didn't listen to something we didn't know that could have made a difference.
"It appears" isn't going to cut it. If this accusation isn't as dead nuts on obvious... as our admin removing our branding name from the home game... then this should not have been brought up.
You cannot attempt to approach our administration to be more forthcoming with the supporters, and turn around in no less than a day... and accuse them of something no one on this forum was there when it happened. "Someone in the know told me" doesn't mean jack ____.
+1
Let it go, man. You're gonna hurt yourself!
My source, who you know well, has two independent sources relating the same story. While not as 100% certain as being in the room it does meet the reasonable standard of confirmation you normally hear journalist use. And both state the call was not an offer but a feeler to gauge our interest. I just think we should have taken the call and listened to their spiel. However, after giving them that courtesy, short of a definitive offer I think at that point you make your decision based on how insistent the NO Bowl was being. I definitely would not have risked losing the sure thing for a maybe.
