"He didn't give us the time of day."

    "He strung us along."

    Flip a coin.

If we were guaranteed an ACC or other BCS-level opponent and turned it down, then it needs to be looked into.

Otherwise, this is a non-story and a yawner.

I tend to agree. I am sure Scott cannot or would not do that without the ok from others. Not that it would hurt my feelings much to do that to them, considering their Northern Illinois decision a few years ago. But I cannot imagine that it would have gone down quite like that. Sounds like a bit of an embellishment. Not by Z, but by the source. I wasn't there, but I can't see that happening, even if we had already decided that we would not accept an invite from them.

so what you are saying is, with quoting bear, is that UL turned down the I-Bowl? we did the same thing last year- reading comprehension- i agree, we probably did turn them down, but we didn't "not listen to what they had to say"

No, he's saying that UL did not listen to what was potentially on the table from the I-Bowl. The story supposedly goes that the Ibowl called and wanted to talk to us about possibilities and we told them, before discussing anything, that we were not interested and were going to N.O. bowl. However, while this may have occurred to a degree, I am not buying what someone within the board for the Ibowl was saying about us being their #2 option outside of Notre Dame. I do not buy that for one second. Everyone knew that Notre Dame was not going to Shreveport as they have been looking at the Pinstripe bowl and that includes the Ibowl reps. If we were their number 2 option, we would have been offered long ago. I'm not really sure why we were taking ticket reservations for the Ibowl if we were positively not going there either. Why go through the extra motions if you do not plan to go. I think the Ibowl wanted us to campaign like crazy to go and when we didn't they did not like that too much. I also think that the potential opponents from ACC and elsewhere were not interested in flying long distances to play us which made it hard for them to offer us and hard for us to accept. In other words, I think the truth is likely somewhere in the middle.

After digesting this information last night, I have to believe someone (Farmer/Savoie?) at minimum, listened to the Indy offer. I can't see anyone simply stating "no interest" before finding out details of the offer. I even have a hard time with telemarketers, whereby I often find myself listening to the preliminary offer out of courtesy, knowing how frustrating it can be getting a customer on the line.

Also, everyone seemed to be in agreement that we should take the sure thing, rather than waiting around for a "better offer", like LaTech. If in fact the Indy bowl couldn't give us a guarantee in writing, and with no NIU in the GoDaddy bowl, the right move was to take the NOLA bowl offer.

If correct, then the real question is about timing. When did UL accept the offer and how does that timing relate to the timing of sending out a form inquiring about our interest to attend 3 bowls? I guess if you want to look at that as us being lied to, I see your point and understand how that rattles a lot of cages....especially given our Admins history.

However, by sending out the forms, it gave them more information for estimating our attendance for each bowl and then figuring out the best option from a financial standpoint. I have to believe the money factor was the overriding concern in making this decision and trumped all other interests, including Hud's, our's and especially other SBC teams.
