If this did happen, is it possible the I-Bowl just didn't offer us enough $$$$ for the game?

From what was said on the sunbelt board , benson wanted us to go to Shreveport so ASU and a third sunbelt team could go to New Orleans and mobile .

So what if independence low-balled us? And another rumor is the ACC didn't want to play us.

And there are contingencies to our invitation? What if they want us to wait until they're sure of who we play? And then we lose to USA? And they end up inviting a PAC 10 team to play the ACC team?

And ASU goes to New Orleans and WKU goes to mobile. And the champion is accommodated and we stay home?

Why would we go through all the BS of having the 3 bowl tickets package and the rest if we were already destined for t he Big eazy???? Oh it was all a well played charade!!!! A HA you mean all that time on the phone with a certain # for each bowl just in case!!!!! A HA booking hotels in NO, Mobile, and S-Port!!! A HA The head football coach not being informed or if informed going against his wishes!!!! A HA Do you think that after the Softball fiasco he would not have this thing gone over in the tiniest of detail with HUD and T-Joe???? Could be true but I am not biting yet!!!

Or the I-Bowl did not offer the N O Bowl enough money for the LACK of fans that would go to the NO Bowl and/or to their City in their restaurants and their Hotels! NO Bowl has a figure in their heads that the Cajuns in New Orleans means to the bowl and their City and the N O Bowl is in the drivers seat saying if the I Bowl wants the Cajuns it will cost them this to buy us out!

Assuming the rumors are true for a second, it would be possible that the Independence Bowl offered a payout to your school that is lower than the payout for an SEC school. The bowl game reduced the payouts to Ohio and UL-Monroe in 2012 by $600,000 and $100,000 respectively compared to the original payout for teams from the ACC and SEC (as shown on Page 13 of the latest Legislative Auditor report on the I-Bowl Foundation). I don't remember what the payouts were for Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois back in 2008, but the payouts were also lower than usual.

Well again I just can't see that the I -Bowl called and w/o any talk we just said NO-----I had heard that we did turn the I-Bowl down last year precisely because of a money amount, but I could very easily see that if we were offered less than a team that would bring less people the answer would again be hell no!!

I think this is a year old story, somehow being applied to today.

I take this with a grain of salt considering the source (ASU fan). They have a vested interest in us going to I Bowl. They were more interested in what benefits them not what's best for UL. And we have discussed the negatives with the I Bowl regarding seat locations, payouts, etc. And with the uncertainty of a guaranteed spot until after the SEC championship game and the fast approaching date of the NO Bowl had we passed to wait to see if Indy opened up ASU would have been slotted to NO Bowl and then if SEC fills the slot we get stuck in Mobile as a fallback option which would be worse than either of the other two. Unless Missy was ready to guarantee the spot and make those seat and payout concessions, it was the smart move.

Having said that, you at least need to listen to their offer especially in light of it being Hud's preference. Kind of like meeting with Sollozzo, it's good business to give them the respect of hearing their offer.

Some of you are missing the point. Our guy, barely even took the call, and when he did it was to say, "not interested in even discussing, we are going to the NO Bowl." That is a problem. Doesnt matter whether Missy Setters is a _____ or not, this will come back to haunt us.
Unless, of course some of you are happy with the NO Bowl forever....

How would we know this if our guy took the phone call just long enough to say, "not interested?"
