LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team bested conference foe Arkansas-Little Rock 5-2 on Sunday. The win improves the Cajuns to 4-1 on the year, while UALR drops to 5-3.
The Cajuns won the doubles point after picking up victories at Nos. 1 and 3.
Freshman Julie Mazinova and sophomore Myrthe Molenveld topped Anne Weijenborg and Marta Gomez Jordana 8-3 at No. 1. Freshmen Kim van der Horst and Mia Gordon defeated Patricia Cortes and Nathalia Garay 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, the Cajuns picked up wins at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6.
At No. 2, van der Horst bested Weijenborg 6-4, 6-2, while teammate Molenveld defeated Jordana 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. Sophomore Marina Ruiz de Gauna topped Rebecca Van Den Houte 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5, and newcomer Bridget Marcovich was victorious with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gray at No. 6.
The Cajuns will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they take on Louisiana Tech and Alcorn State at Cajun Courts. The Cajuns face Louisiana Tech at 12:00 p.m. and will follow it with the match against Alcorn State at 3:00 p.m.
