  1. UL Basketball Payton, West should be a stellar individual battle

Elfrid Payton remembers it only slightly differently. But as UL coach Bob Marlin recalls things, during recruiting season a few years back the Ragin' Cajuns showed some interest in current Northwestern State standout guard Jalan West – but ...

If we get Mbmaulu back this year, we could be very scary in conference play.

""They didn't turn me down," he said, "but they definitely told my parents that the guard from Bossier is the better prospect. That's a real quote."

Northwestern State recruiters went to John Ehret High to watch Payton work out, but he wound up signing with UL.

That in mind, Payton said, "it's a little personal" tonight."

Come out and support our Ragin Cajuns, we need a big crowd tonight.

    Geaux Cajuns!!

I hope you are at the game tonight to ask someone about his status. I'd like him back this season also.

What could be scary is having him back fully healthy next year, that is of course with the thought that Payton is returning for his senior year. I'm torn on this, but am leaning to hoping to see he and Payton play in the backcourt together this year.

I am torn as well. A lot will depend on how well Wronk, Brown and Rimmer develop as our outside shooters. But Mbmaulu means more to the team than just being on the court, he is a leader in the locker room as well.

I'm not certain he would take a medical redshirt if available ... he is on track to graduate this semester I believe. He may be ready to move on with his life, similar to our softball shortstop was.

I was told he can not graduate until December 2014.

Well, I had the month right! I remember seeing something about December, just thought it was this one.

Is this how rumors get started?

I am pretty sure it is next December, I am going to find out for sure. Also the nice thing if he does need a red shirt he hasn't had one yet (I don't think), so he will not need the NCAA approval

This team has the potential to be GREAT next year if we get Mbamlou get due to medical redshirt and Payton stays.
The only main people we lose are Kevin Brown and Elridge Moore we also lose Braylon Lazarre.

ETA: thought we had the max scholarship players this year. We have already signed 3 players to LOI for next year but we only lose 2 scholarship players

We also signed a guy who did not get eligible. I haven't counted the roster. But, we may have three depending on if he gets eligible or not.
