Thread: If you don't like the '08 recruiting class...

Going back to Abbeville in April Z. yeah we lost some big time studs. Hate that we lost the qb to USM and I hate the way he did it. Pretty dkless but that stuff happens. I do recall getting a certain assistant coach the same way from ya'll. It's hard to ask players to honor commitments when coaches show them no example to live by. Coaches always look out for themselves and then get upset when players look out for their best interest. All that preaching aside, I think we got a good class of big defensive recruits, so I am not completely upset. We are doing alot of positive stuff with facilities right now that might help some of these recruits sign on the dotted line in the future.

CDSU, Corn Dog State U, offered him on defense, not offense which is why he followed the old advise, go west young man, go west. What he did not understand was he only needed to go another fifty miles west.

"Many great football players were not selected on All-State teams. While it is likely that some of them should've been All-Staters, the fact was that they weren't considered the best players at their positions during their high school careers.

A few examples are running backs Marshall Faulk and Hank Lauricella, who were Heisman Trophy runners-up a few years later, and quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw, Bert Jones, Doug Williams, Stan Humphries, Bobby Hebert and David Woodley.

All of the quarterbacks played high school and college football in Louisiana, and later excelled in the National Football League."

Beaux66, I always enjoy your comments. You seem like a decent guy,but I have to laugh at some of your comments on the Tech board. You guys did offer Deke Jones, Damaris Johnson, Chris Richard and Luther Ambrose. In addition to those athletes ,after losing Jeffcoat to USM, you guys were scrambling to bring a QB in the last weekend. You even tried to trip in the Forreaux kid from Erath that signed with McNeese St. So when you say that at least you didn't loose any prospects to ULM or ULL, that is not exactly correct my friend. I've spoken to all these kids during recruiting, except Forreaux. Jones signed with SLU, Richard to UL and Ambrose to ULM. It think you guys did have a down year in Louisiana in recruiting. Of course, USM hurt both Tech and UL with coming back on commitments. What did Dooley have to say about this years class from Louisiana, I haven't seen any of his comments?

The only comments I have ever made on there about any recruit was on the loss of the qb to southern pss. I hate them by the way. The most arrogant fans on earth. I have no idea who Tech offered or didn't offer so I can't comment either way. I do know that ULM got some recruits that I wouldn't mind having but I don't know one way or the other if they were ever recruited by Tech. I do know that Dooley wasn't too keen on going the JC route. I think he only actively recruited one. ULM got alot of great ones but most were JC's. As far as Ambrose goes, he sounds like someone we should have recruited if we didn't. YOu must be confusing me with someone else because I never said we didn't lose anyone to UL or ULM because I honestly have to say that I have no idea.

Y'all get too worked up over recruiting. Until these kids prove something on the field, there's no telling how many 'stars' they're worth.

Stars rate a players past, I don't have a problem with that.

I do have a problem that stars grade in 20% increments.

We are aall wondering the same this. Although Bustle has 2 years remaining on his contract, it is pretty much a consensus that this is his last year if he either (1) doesn't have a winning season, (2) doesn't win the conference, or (3) doesn't go to a bowl game. With a new President coming on board and a new Associate AD who is bringing unbelievable needed changes to the athletics department including a private fund raising organization (finally), improved facilties, increased athletics funding, etc., expectations will be higher than ever and we will no longer tolerate the mediocrity we have had in football over the past 10 years.
